Incision sites and the sun ... a question

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

Next Friday I'm off to paradise. Paradise for me, being the sunny white sandy beaches of the Maldives (staying here if anyone is interested). It's the first actual holiday the hubby and I have had since getting married five years ago. Usually when we go away, its to visit my family (which leaves us more tired than when we left lol) or for work conferences.

Whilst it truly sucks that I'll just be on mushies there, something tells me their mushie fish will be nice and fresh hehe.

Anywho, because of the revision surgery, I now have the fresh incision sites again. I know those aren't meant to be sunbaked, but does that mean simply to put sunscreen over them or to put bandages over them?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Jack - Thanks!!

All is well from the Tummy Tuck and breast reduction. I've been extremely pleased with the results and the scarring. There's one spot on my breasts where the scar is a bit lumpy, but its on the underside and doesn't bother me. I've probably done myself a bit of harm in respect to the tummy tuck, by piling on the pounds during the slippage, but these things happen and I'm not going to stress about it. My stomach's still flatter than its ever been lol.

I'll toss a small skin coloured waterproof bandage over my incisions and hope I don't come out polka-dotted LOL. I've never been one that tans anyway, I'll probably get off the plane looking like a lobster

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you have time, Hit your local tanning salon a couple of times before you head off to paradise. The rays are much more controled in a salon and you are less likely to burn with a little bit of a base tan.

Wow Jess that place looks incredible!! Have a wonderful, wonderful time!

As far as the incisions go, I would bring the bandaids and maybe some cleaning solution like hydrogen peroxide in case they start looking a little dicey.

Oh - and I believe a frozen margarita would count as a mushy. :nervous

LOL ... yup, I've already cleared my liquid diet w/ the surgeon  I rarely drink, but they have a swim up bar, so I'm going to start at the top of the cocktails menu and work my way down :biggrin1:

Have a couple drinks for me! Nothing quite as wonderful as a swim up bar!

I'm not an advocate of solariums and sunbeds usually, I just truly think you must be nuts to want to fry yourself into a leather handbag on purpose, but I love a tan! They are truly invaluable before a tropical holiday, just a light base tan and it saves the pain and tears of a bad sunburn when you get to your destination, which almost always happens to us fairskinned caucasions. It really does a lot less damage to your skin to build a light base tan than to get burned, although you'll still need the 30+.

If you cover your scars you'll be polkadotted of course, but does that really matter?

Have a fabulous time and enjoy those cocktails.

Yes, I am very fair skinned and I have learned (the hard way) that I will fry if I don't get a base tan before a vacation to a sunny destination. I do use a tanning bed regularly in moderation (once per week) just because I like having a constant base tan. I like tanning beds better than the sun since it is a controled enviroment. I have also read that having a light tan is like a natural sunscreen and really does actually protect your skin.

Something like SPF 4 to 6 I think - which may not sound like a lot but it could give the average person a couple of hours in the sun if they're also wearing a 30+ sunscreen.

Just checking in to see how the trip went? How did you do with the incisions? I am planning on having my surgery next year and shortly afterward, we will probably be going on a cruise with our family and was wondering the same thing.

I've still got 2 more sleeps til we leave (but who's counting lol). I wish I could fall asleep now and wake up there!

I'll post while there though, cause we'll have wifi access on the beach.

I did get a chance to pop by the solarium twice. Not sure that it'll make much of a difference cause the lil man there looks at me and goes, "Wow, you're white!!" and sticks me in a 10 min bed for 4 minutes LOL. Took me longer to get my clothes off than it did to lay there hehe.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
