Hello Everyone, I am having VSG surgery but not until November with Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana Mexico. Can anyone offer any feedback both positive, and negative about your experience with Dr. Garcia? My biggest fear is blood clots and leaks!

There was a lady who posted on another topic about having her surgery in Tijuana with a Dr. Garcia. She had an infection of her incisions and was going through a pretty bad time of it. Her doctor won't reply to her emails. She felt that she didn't receive good aftercare. I wish I could find which thread she was posting on, but I can't find it. Please be careful!

You should go over to the self pay Mexico board, there are plenty of people over there who have went to Dr. Garcia. I am getting sleeved there on Saturday :)

I kept trying to find that thread, but it still eludes me. I checked out the Mexico board, and there are tons of people who are thrilled with Dr. Fernando Garcia.

I don't know if the lady I read about had her surgery by the same guy....I only know that his last name was Garcia and he was in Tijuana. She had gone there alone, and had some concerns about her incisions before she left, but couldn't get anyone from the hospital to come check on them in the hotel.

I finally found the posting. It was by a poster called Kat1, and was in the "Where are the 50s???" (

Her story starts on page 22. I don't think it was until page 24 or 25 when she mentions Dr. Garcia, but I can't see that she ever mentioned a first name.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
