Texas Cutie 0 Posted November 22, 2006 Does anyone have those more than normal? This AM I had them pretty bad but sometimes it is just like on or two in the midst of nothing. I forgot to ask the doctor when I went. I tried to call but lines are busy! It is no more bothersome than hiccups are but I just want to make sure it will not harm anything? Anyone???? LapBandit 5 Posted November 23, 2006 Very, very normal! Unless they're painful. The band can irritate some muscle (which I don't know the name of) but any way, this can cause a hiccups reaction in a lot of people. I usually get them if I'm too hungry or too full. Some people report getting them while eating as if their bodies are signalling that they've had enough to eat. For me, the whole hiccups thing calmed down quite a bit about a month following surgery. Now, I just get them once in awhile.
Jadedlady1 0 Posted November 23, 2006 I get them a few minutes after I finish eating and it will go for about 4- 5 times then stop. I just figure it is normal.
Texas Cutie 0 Posted November 23, 2006 That is just crazy thanks. I called the doctors office and they basically said the same thing. ALthough they said it could also be due to something stuck in the band (Which I guess they mean the small stomache opening) and drinking fluids for a few days should stop it. I am still on fluids you would think they would know that!

I forgot to ask the doctor when I went. I tried to call but lines are busy! It is no more bothersome than hiccups are but I just want to make sure it will not harm anything? Anyone???? I get them all of the time! It seems like when I drink cold liquids too fast or towards the end of eating a meal I get them. It is a pain when I get them towards the end of eating because I cannot drink anything for an hour to get rid of them... SO I have to let them run their course in that instance... FullofGRACE 0 Posted November 25, 2006 Ditto Leatha it's the diaphragm...I find holding my breath and bearing down until there is a little click almost always takes them away...I read it somewhere years ago.
MsButterKup23 1 Posted November 25, 2006 Some people report getting them while eating as if their bodies are signalling that they've had enough to eat. Yeah that's how it works for hubby and me.
Texas Cutie 0 Posted November 27, 2006 I am not on food. I am only two weeks out on wednesday. It happens first thing in the mornign when I have not drank anything. I am clueless as to what it could be. I guess maybe the shock of the surgery to my stomache? I do not know. But it is not eating related cause I am not eating. Drinking related it never seems to happen following anything specific. It has tapered off now. I have actually not had them in about 3 or 4 days. So that is really good! It is your diaphragm being agitated by whatever you're taking in. Often you'll notice ONE big hiccup, or you'll get several in a row, but it's not a normal case of hiccups. This is normally a signal to either slow down (in the case of liquids) or it's your stop sign when eating solids. Take note next time it happens as to what you're currently doing. It's perfectly normal for bandsters.
