So, what is your loss as a percentage of excess weight?

Recommended Posts

I have lost 101% of my excess weight, yahoo!

@Amazon, u have done a great job!! NOTE, though, that you have lost 101% of your goal pounds! NOT of your excess. You lost 83.5% of your excess. Great job!

Per your profile, you are a 5'10 woman, thus IDEAL weight per most calculators puts it at 150 lbs. You started at 320 pounds, meaning, you started with excess weight of 170 lbs. If you are at 178 lbs now (WOW again), you are thus down a total of 148 lbs... The doc put you at a loss 140 lbs and u beat that!! So, doc set your goal of 140/170 or 82% goal and your actual do date is 83.5%.. 5 feet, 10 inches Surgery Status Post Surgery Starting Weight 320 lbs First Dr. Visit n/a Current Weight 178 lbs Surgery Date Sep, 10 2012 Goal Weight 180 lbs Hospital Stay 2 Days Weight Lost 142 lbs

I've lost 100%. End of this month, I will be one year at goal weight. I do have to watch what I eat now, but it is very manageable. Pre-op I had a raging hunger all day. Now as long as eat firm Protein at each meal I only really crave a snack at night.

308 beginning, goal is 170 (5'10")

excess weight was 138, have lost 74lbs, % lost of excess is 53%

Howdy, DianaE Great stuff! Again, u are confusing goal and excess weight.. Ur ideal at your height is 150 lbs. Thus, your excess weight was 158 lbs. You have lost almost 47% of your excess weight.. Your doc, by giving you a goal of 170, meant they wanted you to lose 138 pounds or thus 87% of excess weight

Perfect example of needing a standard BMI to calculate excess from.

Amazon, firstly I'd like to apologize for using your stats for this example,

A 5'10" individual reaches a normal BMI at 175lbs (25BMI) that puts this example at a 96.6% excesses weight loss

The 150lb number quoted here represents a 22.1BMI which in Amazon's case very well may not be practical. BMI & "ideal" body weight charts cannot account for an individual's muscle mass or bone structure, and should really only be considered a loose guideline

I'd also like to add, regardless of what the charts say, I think Amazon has done great,

I think if you want to take it a step further (using Amazon again) her "highest" weight was 320?

But she had a Lapland before the sleeve, and was a revision surgery.

But still great weight loss!! :)

At 8 months and have lost 99 % ( 100%?) excess weight according to the BMI chart. Most of it was lost in 7 months and have been about same weight for last month. Started at 360 and 180 today (+- a lb or two depending on day). Might try for 175 or 170, but think I am going to bulk up a bit from the cross fit work outs.

My answer is 16.5%. I am 5'2" HW 257, SW 241, CW 221. I am 32 days out. I calculated using 136 as my goal.

I'm 5'7.5". My highest weight was 255. My current weight is 172. A normal BMI (25) is 162 for my height. This puts my excess weight at 93 pounds. I've lost 83 pounds. Doing the math:

I have lost 89 percent of my excess weight.

My surgery was August 8, 2011.

I am still losing, but I'm not sure if I will maintain at 162. I am pretty happy at 172. I am thinking about going lower and then deciding. I don't want issues with loose skin, and I don't want to lose weight and gain loose skin.

So here is my info:

Oct 7/12 - 373 (183 excess)

Nov 15/12 - 356 - first doc appt and baseline for my "prep" (166 excess)

Jan 16/13 - 333 - sleeve date (143 excess)

Today I am 284. My doctor said 190 is goal to use.

As such depending which baseline you calc to, I am 3 days shy of 8 weeks post op and:

34% down from excess at date of surgery (under 8 weeks)

43% down from 1st doc appt (16 weeks total)

49% down from max (21 weeks)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
