Band Port Eroded

Recommended Posts

Hi, Fellow bandsters I was 312lbs (10-12-04) before my lapband. I reached 237lbs after the banding I was enjoying my weightloss until I had a rollover car accident in April and not knowing the seatbelt had broken the sutures on my port, It finally eroded due to infection in July. My :cry port was removed and I been gaining weight since then.:think

Is there not a chance of having it re-done? I am sure there were so many other things going on with an accident of that magnitude, that some minor soreness was not worrisome...I thank you for the heads up should something like that happen to one of us again. I'm sorry you have begun gaining back. What does the Dr. say?

Please keep us informed...we will provide as much support as possible to you. There are several people here "flying solo" without bands---they are doing it and so can you!! We will help in any way we can. Keep your spirits up, and tell us what all is going on!

Welcome to LBT!

Kat

Hi Fellow Bandsters I posted some info about the port erosion that happened to me. My doctor and I just have to set a date for him to reinstall a port. I was just curious on how evasive is the surgery to reinstall just the port my band and tubing are still internal

Having the port replaced is easy as pie! I just had my done about 3 weeks ago and I have been back to 100% for a couple of weeks now. it was nothing like the original banding surgery.

Good luck!

London,

Having your port replaced is a little more complicated than having one removed and replaced in the same operation. Your tubing is on the inside, so usually a laparoscope has to be inserted to find it and pull it out. It's not nearly as invasive as your original band surgery though.

Good luck,

What she is talking about is a port erosion, not a band erosion. You know you have a port erosion because you can see the port through a hole in the skin.

I am new and I am wondering how you know if you have eroded or not.

Dr. C,

Is port erosion caused by trauma to the port area?

I've never actually seen one, but I would think so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
