I was sleeved by Doctor Valenzuela with Dr Cabrera assisting on 3/13 I feel GREAT. Mi Doctor was just fine. It's clean and has the necessary equipment. The EKG machine was from the stone ages, but it worked!

I was up and walking very soon after my surgery and I did feel nauseated. Staff kept up with my medications to help with pain and nausea and I did my part by walking as much as possible. The day after my surgery my IV blew through the vein and they couldn't find a new vein. I had been having trouble with the IV stopping all night long and they had repositioned it already a few times. Once I had my leak test the day after surgery, they said I didn't have to have the IV back in if I could get a lot of fluids down and if I would feel comfortable swallowing pills. Fortunately I had no problem drinking right from the start and could drink 4 ounces of Water in 15 minutes with careful sipping and determination. So I didn't have to have my IV back in. YAY!

I really felt like the doctors cared about their patients. I felt at ease the whole time and I had no problem putting my trust in Dr Valenzuela to do my surgery.

I'm doing a little research for my mom. Did you have a drain?

I had a drain and everyone I've talked to that has used them has had one. Hope that helps

Yes, I had a drain. I was a bit nervous about having one, but the more I researched it, the more I WANTED the drain anyway....They removed it before I left the hospital so I only had it in for two days. It didn't hurt and I didn't even feel it when they removed it. Everyone on my floor, no matter which doctor they had, had a drain.

oh, and I did NOT have a foley during surgery. That was my biggest concern.. I didn't want a catheter. Dr Valenzuela told me she never uses them for the VSG surgery because the surgery is so short.

Darn, I didn't have a drain when I had my surgery in Feb. 2013, here in Washington State, my mom was with me the whole time so now she doesn't really want one. She thinks they sound gross, unnecessary since I didn't need one and had no issues. I also didn't have a catheter or have to have staples on my incisions they just used glue which was nice. Thank you for all the info, and keep up the good work.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
