Drs. Cabrera and Valenzuela

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op after Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy performed by Drs. Cabrera and Valenzuela in Tijuana Mexico. I scheduled my proceedure through Mexico Bariatric Center and Christy was my coodinator. I have had absolutely no problems. All my questions were answered quickly and completely. When my plane to San Diego was delayed, arrangements were made for me. I had virtually no pain, no nausea, and no food intolerace as my diet has advanced. I felt great. I walked several miles the first day I was in the hotel after being discharged from the hospital. I was taken to the Tijuana Marriott after discharge from the hospital. The accomodations and the service were impeccable at the Marriott. The hospital was clean and well equiped and the staff was friendly and spoke very good English. I am amazed at the liberating feeling of never being hungry. I would be happy to comment further if anyone has any questions.

I was sleeved by them on Jan.17th. I also had no problems since. Everything went great. Today is 10 weeks since I started the pre op diet and I'm down an amazing 71lbs. Thats 1lb a day and I had a stall that lasted 6 days. All I can say is unbeliveable. Glad your doing great, how is your wieght loss going?

They are doing my surgery in four days -- on the 16th. I'm so glad to read that you have all had good experiences. I wish you all the best!

Maybe you could answer some questions for me. Do they have wifi at Mi hospital and the Marriott hotel? Does your cell phone need a special adapter to charge? And lastly, my mother is going with me; is there someplace close by that she can get meals?

Thanks!

Mi Doctor does have wi fi, I don't know about the Marriot I didn't stay there. Mi Doctor has a cafe on the first floor and another one the 4th floor. My wife ate both and enjoied the meals. Hope this helps, Good luck with your surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
