jjoyce282 23 Posted March 8, 2013 Ok....so I have a really dumb question. I attempted to purée some food tonight and I'm not sure if I did it right or not.... My NUT said that once I get to puréed foods that I could have 1.5 oz of Protein food (meat) and 1.5 oz of Fiber food (fruit OR veggie). I decided, since my husband and daughter were having pizza to take a couple small meatballs (like 3) and 2 TBSP of seasoned Tomato sauce and purée it....I put it in the small food processor that we have and it seemed to break it down a bit but mostly just threw the ingredients on the side of the processor :-/ I kept taking a spoon and pushing it down and trying again but finally just gave up. The meat was in VERY small pieces but I still needed to chew it slightly before I swallowed it. Do they make a really tiny food processor or should I try more fluids or just make bigger batches?!? Totally at a loss. It was my first puréed meal so I was nervous to begin with but all seems well....no pain!
Meliss000 283 Posted March 8, 2013 Walmart has tiny food processors for like 9 dollars. As long as your food had a consistency of applesauce you will be OK. Enjoy your pureed meatballs, I did that on occasion! And welcome to the losers bench!
TexasMiss 314 Posted March 8, 2013 Try a mini chopper. If you have a dollar store you can pick them up for $5. Most of them are about 1 cup? capacity so they work great for what we need. It will mince an onion to mush if you hold the button down so it should do meatballs. Maybe the Tomato sauce doesn't give enough moisture? Maybe try a tablespoon of beef broth or tomato juice.< /p>
BB145 34 Posted March 8, 2013 I too am in the pureed stage. I have been using my VitaMix blender and it purees it like a champ. I find that I have to put quite a bit of liquid to get it to the right consistency. It kinda creeps me out a little. I'm a texture person and the thought of what I'm doing grosses me out, but I try not to think about it as I'm eating. My favorite so far is chicken with turkey or chicken gravy over very moist mashed potatoes. I also find that lean, canned chicken works better than say a grilled chicken breast. I've just been playing around with different foods. Sometimes it works out and tastes good and other times I have to chunk it. If you find something you really like, let us know. I'm getting bored. :-) Good luck!
TheGamer 406 Posted March 8, 2013 Try an immersion blender. Rather than putting the food in the blender, you put the blender in the food. It makes it *much* easier. Now that I think about it, maybe one of those baby food maker things might work, too.
TexasMiss 314 Posted March 8, 2013 I have a cuisinart duet blender/food processor and it works great. I like it because it has the two attachments but one base. Purees like a champ!
