WHAT TO EXPECT PAIN WISE AFTER SURGERY?PLZ INFORM ME..

Recommended Posts

I had pain all over my abdomen and nausea immediately upon waking. The gave me anti nausea and morphine but I was still nauseous' date=' so they switched to dilaudid. After that no pain and no nausea. I was on a pain pump where I could push the button for more medication ever so otter and I just would push it when ever. I never really felt pain just in general but I would if I tried using my stomach muscles to get out of bed or go to the bathroom. I just had to be careful. I never had any gas pain. I was lucky. :)

I was one of the lucky ones with the pain and gas. It was more of a discomfort than pain for me. Walking as everyone has said is essential. It makes a huge difference.

I had 3 c- sections and learned about the walking back then. I had no problems with them and could say the discomfort was about the same. I think the c-sections were a tad harder. I just had rotator cuff surgery and that was worse than any of it.

Good luck, I hope you have an easy recovery!

Everyone is different when it comes to pain. You may have a low threshold and see white spots when you get shots, or you may be able to brave thru a bad cut easily, just depends on where you're set at. For me, very mild gas pain solved by gas x strips and walking quite easily. I dry heaved in the hospital maybe 5 times, nausea meda stopped this. It caused slight pain. There was one day where my pain crippled me. It was later thought to be gas pain or from the surgical mesh attached to my abdomen wall as it subsided after a while. Afterwards only minor pain in that area for a few days, right now zero pain.

Good luck and beat wishes. The pain meds they give you work. If you cannot take them due to allergies or nausea, ask for a different brand. There are plenty to chose from and no way should you have to suffer. Pain meds make everything alright.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
