All Of A Sudden Im Anemic

Recommended Posts

I was anemic for several years prior to my hysterctomy. since then, my blood #'s have improved dramatically! I am now eligible to donate blood again!!! Yea!!!

I never read up on it to behonest, I knew why I had the problem, I just needed to fix it! Do you know what is causing your anemia? What does your Dr. say?

Hope you feel better soon!

Anything you can share here? I had serious endometrial bleeding issues, which turned out to be cancerous. I figured that was the cause of mine, well that's what they acted like, and sure enough once the treatment was finished, and surgery behind me. I began recouping. Now several years later, I have shown no signs of anemia in easily the last 3 years. I do still use childrens chewable vitamins with Iron.< /span>

Hopefully yours is caused by something simple, and you will be fine---will say a prayer for a good outcome!

As for reading about things on line, it is both good and bad, it seems it always has worst case scenarios. I have 2 tumors, that I know are there, and non reactive at this time, but I made the mistake of researching one of them...had myself dead and buried before I made myself talk to my oncologist...so be sure you get the whole story, before you worry yourself sick.

Take Care--

I had prenecious (sp) anemia diagnosed in 1999. It was caused by ????, but my immune system started going haywire. I now take B12 shots for this. I also developed fibrolmalgia, shingles, thryroid, etc. Sometimes anemia is the trigger for the autoimmune issues. I found myself losing memory, getting confused, staggering when walking, to name a few of the symptoms. I still have some when I get tired, but I feel much better now with less weight.

The good news is that they can fix this. Sometimes its caused by a slow bleed internally. It is good to have your PCP to monitor this and make sure they get to the root cause.

Feel better soon.

I have Iron deficiency anmeia caused by blood loss in my GI tract. My family doc found this out during my pre-op test for the band. I had to get a colonoscopy/endoscopy to try to find the location of the bleeding, but they didn't find anything. Then I had to do a barium x-ray series, still nothing. So finally I had to swallow a pill that had a camera in it that took pictures of my stomach and intestines and they found an ulcer. Now I have to take Iron pills and Prevacid everyday.

I know it can be scary not knowing. I even had to postpone my lapband surgery for 3 weeks while I was waiting for results. I kept thinking of all the horrible things it could be. Has your doctor run blood tests to see if your anemia is caused from iron deficiency (blood loss) or B12 deficiency? These are the most common causes of anemia. If it's caused by blood loss they need to determine where it's coming from. If it's B12, they usually just have you get B12 shots once a month.

I hope you feel better...let us know how you're doing!

I have become anemic too. I have an appointment with a GI doc next month and am supposed to take Iron tablets. I'm not all that worried about it, but know that it needs to be checked out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
