Nail polish and surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all- Did you have to go into surgery without nail polish on or does it not matter like it did years ago? I have gel nail polish and it doesn't come off w/ polish remover ( has to be done at salon w/ filing machine).

Just wondering :)

I had acryllic nails when I had my surgery and nothing was ever said about it. I can't imagine you'd need to remove it.

They told me it was no problem to have painted nails. I asked the nurses specifically.

I was wondering the same thing! I don't have acrylic nails, but my nails are always polished. I hate not having them polished because they are slightly dis-colored due to the fact they are ALWAYS polished!

It if better if they are painted a lighter color... Easier for the finger monitor you will probably have on to pick up your pulse and oxygen level

This was on the instructions so I specifically asked the nurse at the hospital during my pre-op testing and she said its not as big of a deal anymore. I don't need to remove it as it shouldn't interfere with the newer pulse oximeters. If it does they will just take it off there in the room for the one finger.

Hi, when I had my surgery, my pre-op instructions were no nail polish or artificial nails. When I went in for the surgery, the nurse checked my fingers by pressing down to see the color change. I'm not sure what that's for...maybe circulation. I had silk wraps on my nails and I made sure I removed them first. I guess you can wait and see what your doctor says.

O2 sats are measured with a Pulse Oximetry on your finger and the measuring light should be positioned beyond your exposed nail and so the polish should not be a problem.

My doctor said toes were ok, fingers not. So Tuesday I went and had an awesome pedi with sparkle polish and mani with no polish but a nice paraffin dip! Great way to spend the day before surgery!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
