I am on day 9 of my 800 cal/day preop liquid diet and I've been barely scraping by in my high stress job with barely any energy. Today I hit a wall and my vision is blurry, I can barely sit up, and I feel so weak I just want to burst into tears.

I have so much work to get done and meetings where I have to be sharp and on point and I can barely remember my own first name.

Has anyone else felt like this in their preop diet? What did you do about your job performance or work? Any advice?

Hey there, sorry you are struggling. Did you also stop caffeine/soda or anything else at the same time as the start of your pre-op? Could be a combination of the restricted diet and withdrawal.

Call your Nutritionist. Let them know what you are experiencing. They may let you up your calories. I'm sure they do not want you to be drained.

Good luck!

Thanks Jerseygirl. Yes, I gave up caffeine and sugar 3 weeks ago, so my body could have decided to rebel I suppose :)

I've put a call in to my nutritionist (she's at lunch) but hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Your body is in ketosis.......Meaning you have been low carb with very minimum sugar. Call your nut and see what she recommends....can you take today off? Good luck, the good news is that your body is totally burnin fat right now... :)

Hahaha that made me laugh :) love it, that is good news :)

I'm going to try to take the next three workdays before my surgery as half days if I can. Hopefully my NUT gets back to me soon.

You guys are the best, thanks!

It's so weird, I thought cravings would be the hard part, but I have hardly had any. It's just the energy levels.

I was finding that if I wasn't getting enough Protein on one day, the next I felt run down.

I totally understand! I have to stay under 1050 cal but have only getting about 600-800 in and I've been like a zombie! I have no energy. I don't even want to leave my house... I work night shift so the next 36 is gonna be a marathon for me....

I've been getting 80-120g per day. They have me on special super high Protein shakes so I hope it's not Protein deficiency! But yeah, that would do it.

I was on 40mg of protein 3x a day. If I skipped one because I was busy. I paid the next day.

Oh my GOSH that seems like so little! I have 4-5 shakes a day with 20 g each. Good on you for surviving that!

G2 is gatorade and helps you with dehydration by replacing electrolytes your body needs.....

It also helps get in more Water too. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
