Hi Caelyn,

I have Dr. Irgau, but Dr. Peters was assisting at my surgery and he came for a visit afterwards while I was at St. Francis. He's very nice!

Welcome to the DE board!

Every day gets a little easier. I'm moving around a lot more. Still pretty sore and bruised, but I'm sleeping more on my side and almost on my tummy (a big deal for me to be able to do). I haven't had any pain meds since Sunday, and I'm getting all my liquids and Proteins in.

Hopefully Dr. Irgau will let me move to mushies early b/c I am really getting sick of liquids!!!

life skills classes are a breeze, HopeInApril and I went this past February and were both banded in March.

I have spoken with Dr. Peters, but Dr. Wynn did my surgery

Thanks. I just hate waiting. When you first met with the doctor, did he/she give you a choice of differant ports for your lap band? Dr. Peters showed me 2. One was more flat than the other. He said they both worked fine so I choose the flatter one. Do you know anything about that?

Hi Caelyn:

It sure does seem like it takes a long time to get the surgery point. You will be busy with all the appointments and classes you need to take. Dr. Peters was my surgeon and he is very kind and considerate. I think the smaller flatter port is the port for the realize band. I had the realize band put in me. Dr. Peters will explain both to you and then let you choose.

Caelyn,

I went to the PMRI classes. Is Dr. Peters part of CHRIAS? I had Irgau and Wynn. They double team you. I had 5 incisions, so I guess they both work one incision with each hand and hold the scalpel in their teeth. LOL The classes are pretty dull, but you can glean some good info from them. Make sure you're doing an approved diet for the whole 6 months. Mine didn't count, so I had to do the last 4 months over again. I had followed the south beach diet loosely, really loosely, but they didn't count it, because I gained weight. I had initially lost 64 pounds on it, but gained back about 150% of it.

I'm doing the food plan they gave me at my first meeting with Stephanie, the dietician at Chrias. I'm into my 3rd month of the 6 month of classes. This includeds the 6 months of a weight loss supervised diet by Chrias. I'm really not loosing very much, though. I did choose the flatter port with Dr. Peters when I met with him. I just didn't realize it was called the Realize band. I've seen some people getting upset discussing it on other threads. Dr. Peters said they both work fine and I trust him. So I thought....why not go with the flatter one!!!!

I didn't even know there was another choice. I think you mean PMRI, for the dietician. CHRIAS is the surgeons' office. PMRI gives the classes and has the dietician. I think that I was the first to go through the 6 month thing with them. My wife's a teacher, so our insurance company requires the 6 months within the previous two years.

You're right. I'm attending the classes at PMRI. I drive from Easton, MD and I just think of it as one big place. : )

The flatter port is the realize band. I was to have that but the day of my surgery the individual who was the Proctor" for Dr. Wynn was not available. As I was being prepped she tells me I can reschedule the surgery or get the other bad, What do you think my choice was. Yup...surgery that day.

I had been trying to lose weight under my DR supervision for an entire year. So her nores and comments were enoght to qualify for the 3-6 moonth diet plan....

The life skills classes are a itboring, but there is some good info to be learned..

I had an appt with Dr. Wynn today and thought I would get a 2nd fill. but she decided I really didn't need it. Mainly because there are some foods that get "stuck" now and if she gave me any fill I would be too tight.. So I am still at 4cc in my 14 cc band. So I am scheduled for another visit in 4 weeks and if I feel the need for a fill before then I am to call the office.

hi everyone, just checking in.

i go back to work tomorrow. i am armed with Isopure drinks and pureed Soup. unfortunately my mom had to go back home today :) - it was REALLY nice having her around (and taking care of me).

i have my post-op with Dr. Irgau on friday. i am PRAYING he will make me move to mushies b/c i am so ready.

had my first restaurant experience yesterday. macaroni grill with my sis, mom, and b-i-l. i did great! had soup (a few slurps, really) and some sorbetto. the waiter made me feel perfectly normal. good experience.

took my steri-strips off today. was not prepared for what i saw! four of the five incisions are teeny-tiny. the last one is huge and kinda bumpy. it freaked me out.

i'm getting hungry, so i must be feeling better :)

366 - sounds ,like you are all set to get back to work. take it easy though, you may be more tired tonight than you think!!

The large incision is the port location. Mine was really nasty looking too at first, but now it is smooth and only a bit discolored. In time they all flatten and fad.

It is so hot out there it sure makes it tough to get outside and do walking. I treaded Water for 45 minutes at the pool yesterday. Burned up a few calories. and along with laundry got a little exercise in. Have to hit the "Y" tonight for sure.

Keep cool everyone..

366-Congrats on a first great few weeks. It really does get much easier and Dr. Irgau's office is great, but be prepared to wait when you go in for a regular fill. It normally takes me about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get back there for the fill and then the fill takes about 5 minutes. But besides the waiting the office is good, and the docs are all nice.

Good luck going back to work!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
