Hi Im new here and looking for support

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Kim and I was Banded 9-13-06 in Mexico. I go tomorrow for my first fill. I lost 25 punds right off the bat and then nothing for a month, I gained about 3 pounds back. My Dr said my band was "fluffy" and I would need a fill at 6-8 weeks. Boy do I ever. Wish me luck for tomorrow..

Hi Kim and welcome. LBT is indeed a good place for support.

A "fluffy" band. That's a new term for me. Do you know what he means by that exactly?

Good luck with your fill tomorrow.

Sounds to me like you did a good job with an unfilled band, and waited a decent, healthy length of time to get your first fill!! It will help! I too wonder what a "fluffy" band is....hmmmmmm

Welcome to bandland, and LBT, Kim!!!

Hang in there Kim, it may take you a couple of fills before you really feel any restriction. The first phase is a healing phase. Any weight loss is a bonus. When you start feeling restriction, the band will start doing its job. Until then, it is all YOU. The weight you have lost is completely credited to you! Don't sweat the few pounds gained. Look at what you have lost and move on. You are doing an AWESOME job. And don't forget it.

We are all here for your support. Take care.

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it. My signifigant other has been with me through it all hbut he really doenst like to talk about it so much. My sister was banded in march and she went from 200 to 135 already, but she throws up after almost every meal. I haven't thrown up once.

When I asked the doctor what "fluffy" meant he said that my stomach wasnt that big so the band was kinda loose.

Is anyone in or around Olympia WA? Thats where I am and was wondering about docs in the area. The one I am going to today is Dr. Neal. 375 for a fill under flouroscopy. Hope it all goes well. No turkey for me tomorrow.

Thanks

Kim

P.S. How do you get all that stuff under your name? weights and goals and stuff?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
