Eggbeaters, chicken, chicken broth, deli ham and turkey. I got off the hook with the chicken broth from the dietician as long as I use extra salt which I agreed. I was having a hard time keeping chicken broth down. Todays diet was 3/4 cup eggbeaters for Breakfast and lunch was 4 jumbo shrimp. I skipped dinner though which I know is bad but I just want to get through and I wasnt very hungry.

Not a lot if choices, eh? So it is filling you up? That's good! I would say just keep doing what you can do. How many days before your surgery?

I wonder what their reasoning is for having you do the ketosis diet now is? To lower your BMI? A lot of docs have you do it right before surgery to shrink your liver.

I was told the basic reason was to shrink your liver so it's less fatty and easy to move during surgery. The liver lays on top of the stomach. Its easy to crack if its too fatty. It also helps with lowering your BMI. My surgery is April 1st. I've been on my low carb diet for a month. It's tough nut once you get use to it, it's a breeze. Good luck!!

Yeah that is my understanding, too! I just don't get why they would have the OP on the diet before the pre-surg consult!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
