My First Fill

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today. I accidentally looked at the needle when it was on the counter and I just about peed myself (I'm not usually afraid of needles), but you know what, it didn't hurt a bit! In fact, I felt nothing when it was going in. Anyhow, I think I understand how the Water thing works (when u are getting your fill): the water sort of sits between your "boobs" and then slowly releases down, right ? That's what I felt anyway.

I didn't eat during the day, but for supper, a little while ago, I had some creamy Soup (a very small amount 1/4 cup..if) and it seemed to go down. I'm not really feeling hungry, but not sure what I am to be looking for? I suppose I will get a better idea when I progress to solids?

I feel so happy...sigh.

From one Kat to another.......glad your fill was a good experience! My first one, I ended up poked lots of times. It was however worth it, and I am feeling quite happy with my band!!! I have had a total of 2 fills, and am 7 months out.

I never "felt" any "water" sitting anywhere. I never felt the POP some have referred to. I watch mine, and I can see when he hits into the port, the syringe, well the saline in the syringe backs up. My Dr. has a routine he uses for fills, but I am usually watching all of it...it's kinda fun!!! Like you at first the needle was scary!!!

My Dr. has me stay on liquids for 24-36 hours following fills. Sounds like you are doing fine. You may notice a change when you go on to regular foods, or you might not. It may kick in in a few days, or you may never notice a difference with your first fill. The reactions to fills are as different as we all are!! Everyone's experience is just a bit different! The best news I read in your post was the lack of hunger....that was the turning point for me. I love that!!!! I can control the amount I eat on my own, if I can just have the hunger eliminated!!!

Good Luck---glad the first fill, and the nerves that go with it are behind you!!!

Kat

I didn't feel anything with my fill, but I almost passed out the first time he tried to do it! I had to sit down and wait 2 hours before he'd take me back in!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
