One week out and the itching has started already. And to help join in the fun my insomnia has decided to kick in full force.

sleep and sanity? Who needs that?

Have my follow up appointment tomorrow and I'm gunna ask if I can start using my ambien yet...

Did anyone with insomnia pre op notice it got better, worse, or stayed the same after surgery?

I took melatonin for a little while after surgery due to insomnia. It helped a lot. Now I'm good to go, I have no problems getting right to sleep.

Itching was a pain but then from another thread someone mentioned Palmers Cocoa Butter and omg! It's awesome! I don't have dry patches/ itching anymore and my skin feels so smooth and soft!

I had a reaction to the adhesive and steri strips used. Once I was able to get them off it has improved. I'm using Bio-Oil to help with dryness which adds to the itchiness.

So.... Insomnia is driving me bonkos. I lay down to go to sleep and I'm wide awake. Every night it is the same thing. I lay down, toss and turn for a couple hours, go lay down and watch late night tv, lay back in bed, toss and turn, and pass out around midnight. Wake up at 6 am so wiped out. I'm thinking of taking tylonal pm tomorrow night. Something so I can lay down and fall asleep...

Boo insomnia...

Have any of you ever tried acupuncture or tai chi or breathing / relaxation techniques? I hated the hangover from meds, so i looked into other alternatives and they work better for me.

If i start getting into a really bad insomnia cycle that i can't break, acu works wonders. Generally 1-2 sessions and i am sleeping like a baby again. Otherwise i can generally do some meditation/visualization while laying in bed to use my mind to physically relax certain parts of my body and focusing on my breathing. Im usually out within 15-20 minutes.

Can't explain. But try some Benadryl or hydrocortisone cream.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
