I’m new to this whole thing and I’m not banded yet. I have been reading up on it and I plan to make an appointment sometime soon to talk to someone about this. I have been over weight all my life and now that I’m 30 I want control and some help. I have been all over this site and have seen and read some scary things that I know are a risk but is it worth it? I still have to decide if my life is worth putting on the line to lose weight and what will happen after? I just need support any been to the Barix Clinic? That’s where I plan to go in Ohio.

Thanks everyone:help:

~Dawn

Hi Dawn,

I am also in Ohio, near Cleveland. I had my surger at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland by Dr. Aviv Ben-Meir. I am 51 and looked into every type of surgery and the risks. The risks with the band are minimal compared to rny or DS surgeries. I did have some complications after surgery, but that was because I have a tendency toward swelling, so my stomach swelled so tight around the band that it was closed. I had to have a tube placed to drain my stomach. But other than that it has been a piece of cake. I'm down almost 50 pounds and feeling better than I have in years. Hopefully in the next year I'll lose enough that my sleep apnea and BP meds will be history. I had to walk with a cane up until a couple of months ago, I still have arthritis and pain, but I'm getting around on my own again. It was so worth it and it is only gonna get better. I would do it again in a heart beat. Look up the statistics for complications with the band compared to other wls and you will see that the chances of any major complications is rare. Best of luck to you and keep us informed on your decision and your progress.

I have to say that you should go for it. The actual surgery was very easy - the complications? Nil. None. Zip. Now, some folks have had some complications - but they are usually not severe.

Life with the band is pretty much the same as life before the band - except that you have to eat slower and chew your food. Just that is enough to make you lose weight - slowly - and if you follow the rules and exercise - dramatic results can occur.

If you really want control - this surgery is the one. You will get to decide when to make the band tighter. You will get to decide whether you have a donut or not - without fear of physical repercussions like Dumping Syndrome.

Plus - even after you have made your goal - you will have the band to keep you in line so you don't just gain it all back.

I vote yes.

Good luck in your decision.

This surgery is very noninvasive. The only thing that hurt a little bit was the incision sites. You will do fine. Best of luck finding out more information. Its a time to really learn about the band. Good luck.

Hello my name is Lisa I am 35 years old Im currently looking into the Lapband surgery and would love to hear from someone who has already gone thru this. I,too have read this site and even though I wanna lose weight am scared to make a move!!I made my appt to see the Dr.so hopefully with a little support I'll get over my fears. I have been overweight my entire life so I have never known thin. I have two sons 5 and 9 and just recently my 5 year has begun telling me I am fat! Wow how that hurts! Its not like I dont know that I am its just hearing it from him just seemes to affect me more than words. My husband has always been suportive and never ever critized me but truth is IM TIRED OF BEING OVERWEIGHT. Im starting to have health problems now ( Diabetes, High Blood Pressure ect.) and I wanna be around for my kids. Plus for once I would love to look into a mirror without looking away! Ive tried every diet known to man and even though Ive lost max 20 lbs I always manage to gain that and then some back. This surgery sounds like its the best option but obviously Im scared and well just a little nieve to the process.:tongue_smilie:

Thank You,

Lisa....
