So I had my first visit with my surgeon yesterday and I haven't been able to stop thinking about how this surgery is going to help me become healthier and live a better life. In this thinking I can not help but be VERY concerned with the size of my belly and batwings lol... I'm scared I'm gonna be a puddle of mush with excess skin and the problem of loosing hair scares the crap outta me. Anyone else have these concerns? And if u have had surgery... What should I expect? please help!!!!

Well, I am going to be brutally honest. I have lost 76 lbs total (pre-and-post op combined) in a year, and I kind of feel like a deflated balloon. Thats the only way to describe it. Sure, I would like to get some plastic surgery once it's all said and done, but who knows- at least I have my health.

Yeah, when I weigh some Hair loss and excess skin (that if I want to I can deal with through plastics), against not dropping dead of a heart attack, it's not so bad!! :)

I totally understand your concern. When I was pre op I was very firm that i would NOT cut my hair under any circumstances, and I would try every method there is to stop my hair from coming out. I loved my long, thick blonde hair.

Well, around 3 months post op it started coming out. It was a little sad at first, then i decided that it would be less traumatic to see short hair falling out than long hair, so i chopped it just above the shoulders. To be honest, I started to care less. I am down 130 pounds in 6 1/2 months. My hair will grow back, but that weight is gone forever!

I still have a lot of hair, no bald spots, and it stopped coming out for the most part about a month ago.

Good luck!! :)

Some people on this site recommend Biotin to help with the hair loss. It's with the Vitamins. I've started taking it now, pre-op in the hope that it will minimize the Hair loss. (I already lose enough hair with my hypothyroidism).

You can do this!

Me, too! Though I know being slimmer will make me happier and healthier, by husband adores the way I look now. He lives for my fat butt! I will be so embarrassed for him to see me naked with flabby skin. OMG, and my boobs! They might not be perfect now, but they aren't bad! The thought makes me want to cry! Plus, I've always thought that my pretty hair was all I had going for me looks-wise. If I loose it, I'll have lost something very meaningful to me.

Bat wings and bald Vs. Dead from heart issues. You can pick the winner. ;-)

Okay, it is a valid concern... but... I look great with clothes on now. I looked like hell with or with out clothes before. I am going to have to have plastics but compared to being morbidly obese, a little extra skin is nothing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
