Breaking down... Not a pound lost

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on March 1, and 5 days later I have not lost a pound!!! I am up .5 actually!! I tried to brush it off as a slow start because I got my period on day 3 or flying home etc. but to not see any losses at all when I haven't eaten since surgery is freaking me out!! How is that even possible??

You're probably just retaining fluids. just keep it up and you'll see the lost.Good luck!

How about all the fluids they pump into you during surgery. Not uncommon to gain weight after surgery. Just relax it will come off.

I gained 10lbs after my surgery. It was all fluids they pumped into me. Most of it is gone, however I still have some swelling which is probably retaining some Water as well. My pants are a bit tight. Don't worry. It will come off.

I came home 6 pounds heavier from surgery. They fill you up with IV fluids. If you drink your Water, that will come off. It took a few days for mine to come off.

Put that scale away or you'll make yourself crazy.

I gained 11 pounds post op and didn't lose any weight my first month until about three weeks out.

Give yourself a break. Besides all the fluids you are given during surgery it is your bodies natural response to slow your metabolism and hang onto all nutrients when there is an injury (your body doesn't know the difference between surgery and injury) and fat cells are one thing your body will hold on to until it is sure everything is okay. You are in the stage to concentrate on healing and learning about your new life and not so much on the scale.< /p>

I also gained 10 lbs of fluids in my 3 days in the hospital. Don't worry, it'll happen!

I was concerned about this too but my nurse told me that they pumped me full of liquids and that at some point my body would just start dumping that Water. Sure enough about 3 days after leaving the hospital (6 days out of surgery) I started peeing a ton even though my liquids were still so low and suddenly found myself 10lbs less than what I weighed on surgery day. I wouldn't worry about it this soon out of surgery. You have too much going on with healing and should just focus on getting your liquid and Proteins in. Hang in there.

I need some positive thoughts!! You all mentioned gaining after surgery, when did you finally see the scale move? I am a week tomorrow and nothing.... I am trying to stay logical and positive but it gets harder each day...

I think it was about 5 days for me and I lost it all at once. 6 pounds in one day, then one or two a day until day 15 and then NOTHING for 14 days. My scale did not move again until a couple of days ago. I lost a pound yesterday and a pound today.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
