I'm new to this board and have read many of your success stories. I am post op 7 days and cannot believe the severity of gas pains in my chest. I'm thinking they're gas pains, but I have no idea. Maybe heartburn, but I've never had heartburn to know. I'm having no problem getting my 64 oz. of liquids in. Not having any problem walking, everything seems fine other than this constant pain in my chest. Does anyone have any remedies? Is it normal to feel this 7 days after surgery? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you for reading.

I had the worst pain at the pit of my stomach. I ended up in the ER. turned out to be stomach spasms. they gave me some drops to take every 4 hrs under my tong. Pain lasted about a week. I haven't had any more pain since. I was told this happens while the stomach is healing. You should call your doctor. good luck

Unfortunately my doctor is out of town this week. I have to get through this on my own, I just don't know how. It's starting to break me down to the point of crying. I usually have a high tolerance to pain, but this doesn't subside.

I understand completely- I have high tolerance for pain myself. 3 natural childbirths, no pain meds to assist. Yet, this pain in my stomach, did make me cry. Please call his office and try to see another surgeon in his/her practice. My pain started on Saturday morning, woke up with it. by noon I had taken two pain pills and took more every two hours after speaking to the doctor on call. at 2 am i ended up in the ER. I didn't even take my pain pills after surgery and in 1 day I took like 10 pills.

I agree with Quiny, get checked. You can call your doc's office and speak to a colleague, go to an urgent care or ER. Could be something benign or serious, better to know before whatever it is gets worse.

All docs are required to have someone cover their patients while they are out or it's considered abandonment. ER is a great second choice, try to go to the one who did your surgery or one with a bariatric surgeon (unless truly emergent). Body's can freak out after surgery, could be anything from heart to blood clots to the lung. Even getting better acid suppression or antispasmodic meds would help. It's not normal to have that much pain that far out of surgery. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the responses. Last night I got some Gas X strips and that seems to have helped a lot! The pain is still there, but not nearly as painful as it was. I see my doctor on Monday, so hopefully by then things will have worked themselves out. Here's praying to better times ahead! Thank you again :)

I am 8 days out and the same for me. My gas pains are extreme..so extreme I am still only able to chew ice.....pedialyte pops are still coming up...My heartburn is horrible....i spoke to my doc.....he said I am very tight and day by day I will see better days...I must say, it's true.

This too shall pass...in a few weeks we will be great....I am positive

Finally got hold of a dr. They want me in ER ASAP. He said they are concerned about blood clots. He said I shouldn't be having gas problems anymore.

Thank you for the prayers. They helped! I really feel silly, but apparently I'm overrating. So my question is how many ounces of liquid do you consume in a sitting? I woke up today and now I'm afraid to consume anything!

did you say you are overeating?!. anyway, happy you are ok. I was told to have about 60 oz of liquid a day. It takes me about 45 minutes to finish about 16 oz of Water, sip sip.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
