I take Biotin daily and have since about 2 months post op. The most important thing is to make sure you get your Protein goal daily. Mine got fairly thin on top, but it's growing back in well now.

My hair is super thin and fine now, it was long and like spiders webs, it would get so knotty and every time I brushed it, I more and more came out. I cut it up to my shoulders and had a keratin treatment. It doesn't get knotty and I don't have to damage what is left by straightening it. Haven't got any tips for avoiding the loss, but the keratin helps with what is left.

The hair loss is caused from excessive estrogen that enters your system from fat cells. I use Clear scalp therapy Shampoo and have lost no hair. But that could also be from losing slow.

Avoid: heated styling tools, sleeping with styling products in your hair, pulling it back, excessive shampooing, products containing too much wax, the list goes on.

I went to Paul Mitchell the School, if any of you have questions on prevention or styling options for thinning hair, pm me.

And remember! It'll grow back eventually!

Hi LizV-I am lucky to have thick hair but at month 4, I am seeing a lot of hair coming out in my comb when I comb or brush it each morning. I'm trying to reduce shampooing abd using styling products to avoid breakage. Question fir you, I've noticed this past week that when I remove an elastic pony tail or clip from holding my hair up all day, my scalp hurts. I've had the feeling before and you can usually rub your scalp and it quickly goes away-but lately it's so painful I can't touch my scalp/hair and it lasts a good 10 minutes. Strange! I wonder if that could be a side affect as well. Your input would be appreciated.

Your scalp is most likely sore from thinning. I know the feeling you're talking about! If you have to wear a pony try to wear it loose. The tension from the elastic can cause a lot of breakage of even healthy hair. An ice pack could help ease the soreness and it keeps the follicles stimulated :)

Holly...this could be me writing your post! Started 4 months, losing quite a bit. My only saving grace is I have tons of hair to begin with, so now I'm saving money on getting my hair thinned out, which I do twice a year... I should've started the Biotin pre-op like a lot of others did. Oh well, live & learn.

I starting losing a ton at 3 months luckily I started taking Biotin at 2 months and have had a lot of new regrowth despite the loss. My scalp has been sore for about a month and a half. It is much better when I keep it down. I also use the clear scalp Shampoo love it! But have to skip the conditionwr cuz its too much for my hair. I went two weeks ago and had some blnde foils in my dark brown hair and it helps disguise the thin spots perfectly. I continue to take the biotin and have hope from all the spiking hair along my hairline from new growth. Hopefully I am through the worse at 4.5 mnths

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
