Hello from a new Lap bander

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I had my surgery 10/25/06. Lost 22 lbs so far. Starting to be hungry when I eat. Still on purried foods. No discomfort at all. Haven't had my band tightened yet. Should be soon. I am interested on any thoughts anyone has on how to loose weight not be hungry et.

Losing weight while not hungry will come with your restriction. Until then, chances are (unfortunately) that you're going to be hungry. And you should eat as you're still healing and not really to the point of "weightloss" with the band.

I totally lucked out and never regained my appetite, which now almost 9 months after the fact isn't as great as it may sound.

When you do eat focus on solid Proteins (when you can), and foods with Fiber or mass (e.g. mashed potatoes vs. Jello, cottage cheese vs. soup). They help you feel full longer.

MAke sure you are getting at least 60g of protein...that helps alot! No sugar and refined starches...they make you hungry. Hope that helps.

Hi, congrats on your weight loss so far. You are doing great. I am not hungry with the band either. I swear I can go over 1/2 the day and not eat. I have to force myself to have Breakfast. They say that over the next year that can go away but for me loss of hunger is great. Isn't it wonderful to not want food as much and to be more satisfied when you do eat? That is the benefit of the lapband. Good luck.

Hi Lbrown, Congrats on the 22 lb drop. That's great! The hunger will come due to not being restricted yet. I didn't get really good restriction until my 2nd fill. Just focus on healing right now. More weightloss will come once you get adjusted. It does help to make sure you get enough Protein though. Eat quality protein and healthy food and it will help you stay full much longer. Good luck!

Juliegeraci - whomever "they" is, take it with a grain of salt. I'm nearly 9 months out and have no more appetite now than I did the day of surgery. My appetite dropped the 2nd day (of a 2 day regime) of liquids, and never came back. At first I didn't mind because while I heard from others banded at the same time as me that they were having to fight hunger, I was able to just not eat, plain and simple.

The downside to this is that it is a struggle, and one that I don't always win, to eat enough. Unless I have a high calorie food, I probably average about 400 - 500 calories per day. The alternative is to eat when I'm not hungry, which I don't want to do because it makes me feel blah.

Welcome Ibrown9289

Congrats on your weightloss so far...thats fantastic...the important thing is to listen to what your body/lapband is saying and make the best food choices that you possibly can...Exercise is also good too...When I eat to much or make the WRONG food choice I exercise...makes me feel better if not helps work it right back off again.

Best wishes and keep us posted.
