I was out one day shy of 2 weeks. I'm a teacher, but I'm not on my feet a lot (due to knee problems). I had pain when walking along one of my incisions for almost 3 weeks - it finally stopped yesterday morning. (The surgeon had said I'd feel a "pop" when the stitches finally dissolved enough to let go, and the pain would stop - fortunately I slept through the "pop"!)

I had my surgery on a Monday - took that whole week off and the next. Went back the following monday - I'm a desk jockey so it was fine, but I was tired. I could not imagine having to be on my feet right away! Maybe go back p/t to start to see how your energy is.

I wish I would get a "pop"!!! Lol. Every time I laugh or cough it feels like I'm being stabbed with a butcher knife. :(

The surgeon told me 2 - 3 weeks - and it almost took 3. I sympathize - I felt like someone had hooked me on the inside with a fishing line and was pulling at it constantly - to the point of a burning sensation. SO happy to have it gone!

Hi Yazzy, congratulations! I was sleeved on 3/06/12 so I'm coming up on my first anniversary and although I was extremely nervous too it was the best decision I've ever made. I'm healthier and happier and soon you will be too. Try your hardest to stick with the liquid diet and start walking as soon as you can the day of your surgery. Believe it or not walking brought more relief to me then the pain meds. Be prepared for extreme dry mouth the day of your surgery until the next day when they can ex ray you to make sure there are no leaks and just remember you will be able to feel hydrated again. The first time you try to poop it will feel like you forgot how but that's only temporary and for some people doesn't happen at all. Most importantly be easy on yourself, ask more of others for a time and really think Water, Protein, water, protein...the most amazing thing was from the minute I woke up from surgery, the constant cravings were gone. Best of luck to you, go for it!

I was off for 3 weeks but I am an ER nurse and work 12 hour shifts on my feet. My doc didn't want me back too soon. I think it depends on what your job is. I had lifting restrictions for those 3 weeks so that was a factor as well. Good luck with your surgery :)

I was sleeved on 2/26 and am scheduled for six weeks off. I have MS and fibro so major surgery really knocked me on my bum. If my fatigue gets better and more manageable before the six weeks are up, I'll go back sooner. But I'm not going to push it too hard and end up putting myself in the hospital getting iv steroids and have to be in a wheelchair again from an MS episode.

Not in one now. Have been a few times in the past. It SUCKS!! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
