just curious - who swims for exercise?

Recommended Posts

As I was completing (for the first time post op) 1.5 km in the pool today I was wondering who swims for exercise?

How much do you do?

How often?

Do you combine with other cardio? resistance training?

Swimming has been working great for me - just curious to hear from others

Look up members Rootman and MassIndex. They are both swimmers. I swim, but only for pleasure. Tried doing it for exercise, but staring at the bottom of a pool drove me crazy.

I was just sleeved a week ago and can't wait to get back in the Water. Swimming is my exercise of choice. I swim laps. That gives me the best bang for my buck. Goggles and away I go. I swim laps non-stop for 25 minutes, and hope to do more. I also use the "barbells" that float, and do many arm exercies under the water with them, which really works my arm muscles. My goal has been 3 times a week. I'm in the pool an hour. Good luck to you!

I think swimming is a great way to tone the body.

It takes me an hour to swim 2.5 miles. I would do that 4x a week. That's all I did before surgery because it hurt to walk. I had my follow up today and I can't go in the pool for a month! Once I'm cleared I will add strength training.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
