Taking forver...cant seem to finish protein

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op. it's taking 2 hours to finish an 8oz Protein Drink. Can I take bigger drinks? I feel that between the Protein, a Soup and Water all I'm doing is drinking all day long. How am I suppose to do it tomorrow when I go back to work??

Yes, it does feel that way, doesn't it? Your first priority should be to get your liquids in. You can end up in the hospital due to dehydration, but you won't end up there because of lack of Protein.

Are you able to have a Water bottle at work?

Just do the best you can and know it will get better.

I finally got applesauce and Water down without major discomfort, but I dont know what Im gona do about my Protein. The smell of it is becoming nauseating. Think Ill try strawberry next time, but Im sick of sweets. Id kill for some scrambled egg whites and tuna right now. Trying to keep from crying.

Try ginger tea. I was my life saver. It helps to decrease the swelling inside of the stomach. I swear by it I used it the first few days and had no trouble getting protien and fluids down. then one day I forgot it and I started to get very uncomfortable with swallowing agian and couldn't get much in at a time. I drank a cup of ginger tea and all was back to normal again I could drink up to two cups an hour easliy. I swear by it!!!!!!!I was using a ginger tea by Yogi. but as long as it has ginger as the main ingrediant I think you'll be okay. try your local helth food store.

I send my husband to get me the ginger tea. I just had a cup. It went down so smooth and it only took me 15 mins. To finish it. It was the best feeling today. I hope it helps with the swelling too. Thank you!

Sorry it has taken so long to answer the questions. I did get mine at a health food store but any high quality store like raleys or bel air should have the Yogi tea or even some other brand like Mighty Leaf or Yumi. I have tried some other blends of ginger but the didn;t have as much ginger in them and didn't help as much. You could always use two or three bags at once though. I found the room temp. tea (all fluids for that matter) go down much easier than hot or even cold.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
