Day 6 Post Op on Full Liquids and cannot do dairy...HELP! I'm starving!

Recommended Posts

I am on the full liquid diet that I was oh so happy to begin with 3 days left of full liquids before I can move to the purees. I am so hungry all the time now after never being feeling no hunger at all.

At day 3 post op I was allowed to add sugar free yogurt and strained 98% fat free Soups. Prior to surgery I had a serious lactose intolerance and it has apparently gotten much worse after being sleeved. I tried both and there is no way I can deal with the constant bubbling in my stomach after a 4oz serving.

So, basically I am still on the Clear Liquids and I am as hungry as a bear. Did anyone else have this issue? How did you make it through the full liquids without dairy? I do use soy and lactaid milk in my Protein Shakes. Is that my only option for the next 3 days?

I was starving dairy or no dairy, until I ate a piece of meat. It was the only thing that made me feel satisfied. Hang in there- real food is coming and in hindsight it was such a short time period. It just doesn't feel that way when you are going through it. It won't last forever and you will eat like a "normal" person again! Hang in there!

I was told no dairy at all until week 3. Have been drinking 50% Gatoraide/ 50% Isopure and alternating with a bit of chicken broth and some sugar free yogurt. Can't say that I'm hungry. I did start taking chewable vitamins because I felt that I needed them and so far, so good.

Why not make almond milk yogurt? The process is pretty much the same as making regular yogurt except you have to strain it a bit to thicken it.

What brands of yogurt are you all eating that's sugar free?

I haven't advanced to yogurt yet... but I generally just make my own yogurt and then it can be sweetened with some stevia or mashed banana or Torani Syrup.< /p>

My doctor actually put me on Prevacid. It really helps. I am also very lactose intolerant. I use lactaid milk too!

http://www.makeyourownyogurt.com/ This is an excellent tutorial. It seems more complicated than it really is. And there are many MANY ways to keep it warm while it's processing. But this tutorial will get you started. I make a LOT of yogurt. My BF has a convenience store and any time we have milk that's out of date, it gets brought home and made into yogurt!

Oh man, I just read thru that link...you have WAY more patience than I do! God bless you for doing all that instead of just picking up some yogurt from the store!

I am on day 8 of my post op diet. I have been living on Isopure shakes, chicken broth, light greek yogurt (has higher protein), strained cream Soups, sugar free/fat free Jello and puddings and sugar free popsicles. Not a bad variety and I have lost 10 pounds. I am going to try puree chicken breast tonight I think and add it to my cream of chicken Soup. I will also make a seafood chowder and puree all the seafood. I could eat baby food too if I want too. I know this wont last forever and I will just make the best of it. Sometimes dehydration can feel like hunger or even a high acid stomach. I take a little malox to be sure.

Hi. Wondering What chicken broth you drink? I guess I just don't find broth to be tasty. Atleast not so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
