Robyn1030 19 Posted March 4, 2013 I have Federal BCBS, which requires, among other things, a two year history of being morbidly obese. I have a unique situation. I am a wheelchair user and cannot stand. Because of this, my primary care physician has been unable to weigh me. My VSG surgeon's office was able to weigh me with an accessible scale. However, I am concerned that I do not have the 2 year history documented. Thoughts?? Ideas??
TES 858 Posted March 4, 2013 Does your surgeon's office assign you a patient advocate who works with the insurance company to get your approval? I would ask him/her for suggestions, and/or you could call the insurance company yourself. Could your PCP write a letter stating that your current weight is consistent/close to your weight over the past two years (if it is?).
BeatrizS1974<3 sleeve 94 Posted March 4, 2013 I would probably ask your primary dr. (especially if you have been seeing him/her for two years if they can write a letter to the insurance company saying exactly that he didn't have a wheel chair accessible scale and see what happens. Robyn1030 19 Posted March 4, 2013 Thanks! Great ideas. I'm sure it all be fine. Just trying to figure out what I can do proactively.
