Do any of you ladies have PCOS prior to surgery and I are planning to have a baby at some point post op? My husband and I are wondering how long we should wait before I take out my birth control I know the surgeon wants me to wait a minimum of 12 much but I'm wondering yep that's long enough. My gynecologist said that he would be assertive when I am ready because I am or I will be 34 this year. I am secretly afraid of gaining weight is anybody else thinking like this, or am I being selfish? I really want to be successful from the surgery forever , and I don't anything or any situation to ruin it. What do you ladies think? Have any of you experience a pregnancy after surgery? How was it? Do you have any advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

P.S.

I already have a 15 your old, and she is wonderful! I think I'm afraid of the unknown, because it has been so long.

My surgeon made me sign papers saying that I would not try to become pregnant for 24 months after surgery. As an unmarried woman, I'm certainly not planning on it. But I've had friends in similar situations and I think it's usually recommended that your weight loss stabilizes before you try to become pregnant. Also you want to be far enough out that you can physically consume enough daily calories to support a healthy fetus.

I had my surgery on 12.12.12... I am planning to take my mirena out June 2014... The fact that we are waiting 18 months after my surgery is more credited to the fact that it just falls in line with my son turning 5 in Aug 2014 and my husband and I want to try then...

My surgeon suggested waiting a year, my OBGYN (who has treated my PCOS for 5 years now) suggested waiting a year as well. We chose to wait the additional 6 months on our own!

My surgeon said wait a year. Although they don't encourage you to get pregnant before then so that you can achieve max weight loss, they told us if it happens then come talk to them immediately so that they can work with your OB/GYN to ensure your health and the baby's health. That being said I'm not gonna try for at least a year. I have no kids and I would like at least one. I'm going to be 39 in May.

I like the gap the kids will have in age. Im thinking as soon as we get rid of the BC we are going to be very fertile.

You wont gain, You will have to very careful there us no way of knowing when you ovulate after surgery. Normally our hormones are all over the place because of the rapid weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
