Carnie Wilson

Recommended Posts

So Carnie Wilson, had Gastric bypass in 1999, and then the lap band in 2004. She has only lost 40 pounds since her revision. I suspect she will be getting the sleeve soon.

Speaking of famous people (or semi famous people). I'm thinking Boy George and Chaz Bono had WLS.

Any thoughts?

I read the article wrong. She had Lap-band surgery in 2012.

I was thinking of going the bypass route until I saw Lisa Lampanelli's (comedian) weight loss with the Sleeve. She lost 80 pounds in 5 mouths and looks great. I started reseaching the Sleeve immediately.

I knew that Carnie has WLS twice (didn't know which kind) and I recently watched her on Celebrity Chef and was surprised that she hadn't lost more weight.

If Chaz Bono had WLS, I don't want his/her surgeon. I remember seeing somewhere that Chaz was saving/working toward gender reassignment surgery. Poor Carnie Wilson. I think someone has missed the boat with her. She truly needs someone to help her deal with the mental aspects of her weight loss journey, IMO.

I just saw her on a show the wife watches. Its called celebrity wife swap... personally can't stand her. Seeing how she lives her life off camera just reinforced my opinion on her. I will admit I did feel a little sorry for her while watching the show.

It appears Carnie had gastric bypass in 1999 and lost 150. Then had two pregnancies and regained much of the weight so in January 2012, she had lap band surgery.

I wish her the best on her journey.

That is a VERY good link! I am putting it in my signature. It lines out very clearly who should and shouldn't get the surgery.

Good find, NSquared!!! :)

this should be on the banner for this site "Bariatric surgery is not an alternative to lifestyle change, it is a tool to help people become more successful at lifestyle changes. Bariatric surgery is surgery though and therefore comes with risks. For that reason, it is only appropriate when the benefits outweigh the risks." Every newbie that comes here should have to read this before joining up.

Much of Carnie Wilson's weight re-gain after her bypass had to do with her being an alcoholic. She was drinking a bottle of wine a day.

Some people have addictive personalities. It may be genetic. Her father has dealt with substance abuse problems and mental illness his whole life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
