When can we stop being fearful of leaks?

Recommended Posts

Well Dr. Luna said that in most cases people that end up with leaks, get them between 2-4 weeks and the risk lessens everyday so that was a relief to hear :)

My doctor said my chance for a leak goes down significantly even after 1 week.

Well that's really good. I thought that the symptoms aren't shown right away though so can't you have a leak and not know for a while? Why do people even get leaks? I know you can get them from eating too early but is that the only way?

I am so afraid!!! I am almost ready to say forget it!!! Maybe it's better to get the Bypass instead!!! I am waiting for insurance approval!!! I can see myself crying in the pre-op saying "I don't know!!!" Did any of you want to say FORGET IT!!!!

Bypass is scarier cos they have to re route your intestines :/ it is scary but you have to ask yourself if the low percent risk of a leak is worth it. To me it was because obesity causes a lot more problems and risks then maybe a leak. Hang in there and make the best choice for you. Everyone is different

Wanting to say, "Forget it" is a normal feeling, especially as the time for the surgery draws near. I must have asked my husband fifty times if he really thought I should do this! Once you have the surgery, you will know you made the right decision. It will take a while but once you are 8-9 weeks out, you will be exercising at the gym and eating "normal" foods, just smaller quantities. You will actually feel normal again! Just follow everything exactly that your surgeon tells you to do and you will be fine! Best wishes!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
