How manys calories/carbs should i take in?

Recommended Posts

I am 2months postop, I can tolerate most foods pretty well.

Question is, what should my calorie/ carbs intake be? What is everyone else having?

I was told not to go over 35 carbs a day. The Atkins diet is good you can buy

the shakes and the candy bars for dessert and they are good.

Sincerely,

Tracy

I am 40 days post op, i stick to a pretty steady 800 calories a day and I try not to have more than 50 carbs. Some days I'm a little over or under, but that is what I shoot for.

Looks like you are doing well. Ask your nutritionalist for advise. Every surgeon is different.

I was told to stick between 600-800 calories and 60-80 of Protein. They did not specifically restrict my carbs but when you are trying to get so much protien in then isn't a whole lot of room for too many carbs.

I don't really believe there is a definitive answer to this. Every body reacts differently, that is why the dr. and NUT's should calculate your metabolic rate and give you personal guidelines. If that isn't an option then start with the 600-900 calorie range the more active you are the higher it should be. Protein should be a minimum of 60, but a better calculation is to take your body weight in kilograms(pounds divided by 2.2) x 0.8 and that will give you the recommended grams of protein for you. Carbs are much more complicated, I personally don't worry to much about the actual number of carbs but avoid the high starchy carbs like breads and pastas. Good Luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
