I am 6 weeks post op and NOTHING tastes good. Water, crystal light, g2, apple juice, Protein and Mushie food all repulse me. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

This is normal for a lot of us. I know you want something to taste good but for now just be happy that this is a tool for maximum weight loss. Eat your little bit of required correct food & then remember how much weight loss this must be leading to. After awhile I became more interested in the food as it tasted better. Some of my favorite foods still are just "uh, who cares, not worth it anymore" which is a blessing. I was nauseous 4-5 months out so that sucked too, but it kept my eating small & my weight loss big.

Being 6 weeks out a lot of things still do not taste good to me. I heard this could happen post-op but I don't understand the reasoning behind it. It is frustrating but then again I never crave anything and I never feel the need to eat a ton of food. When things don't taste the same it becomes a way to push away from my plate. I believe that this does get better as time passes though.

Thanks to both of you! It's just very frustrating because I know I have to get some nutrition and food or drinking is the last thing on my mind.. And when I do eat / drink I feel like a little kid being force fees Brussel sprouts. Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
