I am researching if whether or not WLS is for me. I am 5'7 and 240 lbs.. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I am Prediabetic, and anemic. My husband says I am not big enough. But I am tired of being exhausted and hurting all the time. I am afraid of my self control and that I won't do the tho hs required of me by the doc. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I am 5'6 and weighed 217 when I first started my preop diet. The day I had my surgery I weighed 204 lbs. I also had pre diabetes and PCOS. Those two things are what qualified me for the surgery. I say go for it. I did it and its a breeze. You will feel so much better once you lose some weight, your body won't hurt so much. Hope that helps.

I would approach it very conservatively if I had the BMI you have. I definitely think exercise and weight loss will help, but have you tried other methods? WLS was always a last resort for me...there are risks, of course, but the main reason I put it off for so long is that I know that for me it will be just a tool and won't "cure" the underlying issues that lead me to overeat and emotionally eat...no matter how low-risk the surgery may be and how easy others have had in recovery, this is still serious surgery...you will be taking out permanently 80% of your stomach...and there is no guarantee you or me or anyone else will not gain the weight back...I don't want to sound discouraging--only realistic--and because you asked...I just think I would try starting an exercise program and just eating healthier for longer before committing to WLS

I am 5'6" and 250. I have servere back pain. Have apena, High Blood pressure. I am told that will all go away with the weight. I have no will power but this means so much to me I am going to have the sleeve done. You are a canidate for it so go for it. Check with your insurance and see what they will cover. I think you will be very happy with the outcome. Stay away from the band. Good luck with your decision.

Yes for sure stay away from the band. And don't be scared by the losing 80% of your stomach statement, or that it's irreversible. Look at all the success all over this site, so much inspiration. It's life changing for sure but in a good way and just what you need. I would out more weight in advice from people who have actually gone through it or who are going through it currently then people who have never had the procedure done. For me, it's already changed my life in a positive way and it's been 3 weeks. I can't wait to see how much happier I will be in a few months from now when my body lets me do the things my heart wants to. Ultimately it's your decision and you need to do what's best for you and your family. It's a long process with lots of information and counseling and support groups. You will know exactly what you're getting yourself into by the time your surgery date comes around. Good luck Hunny.

I think you should do it when you are 100% ready. 100% ready to follow docs orders and have control. I'm 5'9 and 240 pounds. I would have surgery if this were my starting weight. I was so ready for this surgery though. I researched like crazy, not just about the surgery, but on how to eat and be healthy as well. I've had no problems with self control after surgery and haven't missed eating like I used to. I've done great actually. I'm four months out and this is just my way of life now. I eat because I have to, not for entertainment anymore.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
