Not sure where to post this at, I'm confused with how many calories I need. I use the my fitness pal app and it adds the calories I've burned to my daily intake. I can not even get to my normal daily intake let alone eat all these extra calories I've burned. However since I've upped my exercise I've been getting dizzy and light headed and am pretty sure in need to add in more calories to my diet, however it doesnt seem right to eat all the calories ive just worked so hard to burn off. i can't get in to see my doc till the first week of April so I was hoping maybe someone here could help. Just want to make sure I'm not hurting my body and doing what's healthiest.

Could you speak to the office NUT about it? How many calories are you getting in?

I have to get a referral from my doc to go back to the nutritionist. I can't see him for a month, my normal food intake is between 800 and 900 calories a day. Normally very high in Protein also. I also drink a lot of Water so I know it's not dehydration. I excersice 4 to 5 days a week for about an hour and a half.

Sounds to me like you are right on track. I never eat 900 calories, I average 700-800 daily and exercise from 1-1 1/2 hours per day. You may have an electrolyte or Vitamin imbalance. I would get this checked out, do you take Vitamins, B12, Calcium, Iron?

I do take Vitamins. I may need to take more though. I only take a multi with Iron, a B complex, and a Calcium with D. If you have any suggestions on other ones let me know. Thanks

I have had this same problem due to lack of calorie intake however I am only getting between 250 and 400 calories a day. This is not the norm for most post-op sleeve patients. I actually had to have an EGD to stretch out some of my sleeve because it was so narrow. But I get light headed and nauseous a lot when I work out because I am not getting enough calories. My doctor actually told me to only do light intensity exercise (like walking and going really slow on elliptical). Does your office have a triage nurse? Mine does and that is who I have talked to a lot. If you are having issues you let her know and she in turn talks to the surgeon to work out the issue. They actually worked me in the next day after I talked to her.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
