Help, please....first PB

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was banded in Sept and had my first fill in October. I've been pretty much been able to eat anything (just less) until tonight. I had my first PB on a piece of dry chicken. I was sliming for hours and am now starting to feel a little better. My worry is that I can't even keep down Water now. Has anyone ever had this problem after a PB and is there any rules or restrictions I should follow after having one?

I would appreciate any help. Now I'm paranoid that I might have slipped my band.

Thanks again:)

Coreen

PBs can really agitate our little areas. Try very, very small sips of warm/hot liquids, like hot tea or cocoa. General guideline is 24 hours of warm liquids or very soft mushies after a PB.

When i have a very bad pb and i'm sore in my chest i don't do anything by mouth - no liquids at all for several hours after the pain is gone and then sips from a spoon to make sure it doesn't hurt. then liquids as suggested earlier for 24 hours. i know its a terrible feeling - try to keep busy

Thank you so much for responding. I didn't get any sleep last worrying that I might have slipped my band. I tried have a some Water today and it came right back up. I'm hoping I just irritated the heck out of it and not something more serious. Maybe I'm taking too big of sips...I'm gonna try the spoon. Thanks again.

hey again - just checking in - now don't get all re-worried but i was a little concerned when you said you couldn't keep Water down after the night time - so, just wanted to say - if you can't keep water down after today you do need to call the doc - now still don't worry about slipping the band - unfortunately i have a bit of experience with this pbing thing (more than i want -smile) and while it would be very doubtful you had a slip you still might need a slight unfill. Once a few weeks after a fill i ate a piece of sushi in the a.m. and i threw up for a day and couldn't keep anything down - the doc said come in immediately - as soon as he took some out i was ok - so, slight chance you are super irritated etc so don't wait more then today - if you can't get liquids down you need to see the doc. again, don't freak ok - it takes a lot to slip the band - but if you can't keep the liquid down - you are so irritated you need some relief that a slight unfill will give you. good luck and keep us posted - you'll be ok.

Well I guess the good news is I won't be eating too much on Thanksgiving...lol. I'm probably not gonna try anything else today and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Thanks for all the support!

It's when a piece of food gets stuck. For me it happened cuz the chicken was too dry and I didn't chew enough. It felt like pressure on my chest and finally I threw up, but it wasn't food it was a bunch of saliva (which is know as slime). Then came the food...not pretty at all. Feeling better now...taking small sips of liquids and seem to be doing good so far this evening.

I do this nasty little thing way too many times. Whats embarrassing is when you are talking to someone and all of a sudden liquid comes gushing out of your mouth. I was just drinking coffee!!!!:omg:

When we were on our cruise in August I had to leave the dinning room several times just to throw up. A couple of times I barely made it into the stall before all the Fluid exploded out of my mouth. This is not fun. Linda:faint:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
