Made quinoa last night and a few teaspoons with homemade stirfry. Very tasty. Can anyone else share their experience with it?

When I go to Whole Foods I always pick up a salad bar box with edamame, quinoa, tofu, and various other tasty treats. I usually have it for several meals. I'm not a vegetarian, but the selection is always so fresh and delicious. I crave different things than pre vsg when I preferred chips and chocolate. Now I would much rather have cheese, green things, whole grains, fresh veggies and low fat dressings.< /p>

I also love a quinoa salad (also from Whole Foods) - but I think I've also had it from Trader Joe's, it was precooked and frozen.

I like it a lot - especially with some kind of vinegar dressing and red onions and other crunchy bits!

I use it also. costco has it at a pretty good price. I make it using low sodium chicken broth, olive oil and red pepper flakes. You can also make your own salad using a vinaigrette, cheese and toasted pine nuts with some veggies. I'v used peppers and asparagus. Both were very good.

There's a chicken restaurant I love that makes it as a cold salad with cucumbers, black Beans, red onion, Tomato, cilantro, and lime. It is so good!

I bought Red Mill Quinoa on Amazon in bulk and there are just endless uses for it. I love to make guacamole with it - so that half the guacamole is puffed up with Quinoa. High Protein, less fat, more filling. It's a miracle food!

There are a TON of great Turkey Quinoa Meatball recipes, too. Mmmm so good!!

I make spicy quinoa cakes for my little guy who is on a special diet... tastes zesty but super "clean"... I use cooked quinoa, garbonzo bean flour, grated carrot, finely chopped spinach, garlic, coriander, paprika, and a few other seasonings then put them on the griddle (small pancake size) for about 10 minutes... super tasty, gluten free, and a nice side to chicken or other protein! Travels extremely well, good hot or cold. For post op diet, you can make these any size you like, depending on your tummy capacity... from dollar pancake size to the size of burger! Msg me if you want the whole recipe!

It's relegated to the grain category for me because quinoa because it has 8 grams of Protein and 220 calories per cup, not enough to be a good Protein food for the amount of calories. I get two servings per day of whole grain. A serving is a slice of whole wheat bread or 1/2 cup of rice or quinoa.

I like it plain, like brown rice.

Very true! It has protein but is definitely a hefty grain. My NUT says its fine post op in solid stage, but just very little.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
