Anyone have to do a 4 week pre-opt diet?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone have to do a four week pre-opt diet? If so how much did you loose? Actually if you read this and had a 2 week diet how much did you lose?

I had a 4 week pre-op diet of 30 grams of carbs or less. For me, I actually started the diet two months early and so lost 27 lbs prior to my surgery. The two days before surgery I had liquid only as required.

I started my pre-op early as well...at 4 weeks prior to surgery. Two Protein Drinks and one low cal meal a day (under 300 cals). Last two days prior to surgery was liquid only...and by morning of surgery I had lost twenty pounds.

I had to do a Liquid Protein diet : Protein Shakes getting in at least 80-120g of Protein a day. 64 oz of Water and could have broth, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, Crystal Light, Powerade Zero, Propel, etc. I started that on 02.13.13 & my surgery date was 02.28.13 - I weighed in at my surgeon's office on the 27th and lost 23 pounds. SW 326, weight the day before surgery 303 pounds. Not sure what my weight is since surgery because I don't want to become obsessed with the scale. I weigh in again on the 03.13.13 at the surgeons office.

It seems like everyone diets from length to what they eat or drink is a little different. As is their loss. I have a cousin who went to the same surgeon I am going to. They put her on a 3 week diet but after 2 weeks they moved up her surgery. She lost 25 lbs in those two weeks! If I lose like her which I doubt I will, that would be 50 pounds in 4 weeks. In that case meeting my 15 more lbs to lose won't be hard to reach lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
