Just an FYI. Mexico isn't considered a third world country because of its newly developed industrial system.

First of all. Why would you go to a third world county to get such a serious surgery done. Your lucky you made it out alive. I'm surprise you didn't get an infection. I would have ran out of there.

RCT - First of all, Mexico is NOT a third world country. You are obviously ignorant on the options in Mexico and making judgements. We don't need people to bring those of us down that are struggling with Obesity and are looking for ways to make our life better and regain our health and happiness. We are here to encourage, support and inform. And lastly the correct form of the verb is RUN. You would have RUN out of there not ran.

Even if it was given to me free. I wouldn't do it in a third world country

Oftentimes people do not know what they would do until they are left with no alternative. Did I want to go to MX at first? Heck no! Surgeries being done on a couch, me being left butt-naked for everyone to see my goodness ;-) and lets not talk about the complications.

I knew I didn't have the patience to wait for my insurance, so I did my research on MX and Medical Tourism. And guess what??? All those stereotypical views of a "third world country" (as you say), was a bunch of bull! Now I am sure black street surgeons exist everywhere, but you should definitely do your own research and educate yourself a little more on the subject matter before making harsh comments about other decisions just because your perception of MX are based off of movies and talk shows.

It's fine if you want to be misinformed and appear ignorant here' date=' that's your right I guess. But you obviously know nothing about the Medical Tourism in Mexico. I don't think you probably want to know about it either since I believe you're just here to stir the pot and troll, but surgeons in Mexico have been doing these procedures longer than most surgeons in the US, they have great outcomes, the hospitals are clean (as clean as in the US), some of the surgeons are even members of American surgical associations, so there you go.[/quote']

First of all I'm far from ignorant and all you said sound great. And I'm sure that everything you said is true. But your telling me after all she said you wouldn't have ran out of there? Where did you get yours done? I'm Dominican and there are also great surgeons in my country. But most people go to those county to get preceder done because its cheap not so much for the surgeon. Most of them don't have insurance and it not cheap in the states. I get it. But check out the place first. I don't know about you. But I did alot of research before I decided on who was going to preform my surgery.

C'mon. Everyone has a right to their opinion but you came in here to instigate and cause drama. You're not adding anything helpful to this thread. You're taking away from it. Not cool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
