Hi everyone!

I am 17 days post op and everything has been pretty smooth sailing so far but over the past few days my skin is so dry and itchy... I now have this fine red rash all over my arms, thighs and stomach! Did anyone experience anything like this and did anything help it! I am getting at least 6-8cups of Water daily and taking fish oil!

Thanks for any help! ????

Shelby

I noticed the same thing. The last few days I have been rubbing on every wall corner cus I have this horrible dry patch on my back and can't ever seem to get enough lotion on it. But my whole body has been itching badly, I even noticed my scalp was dry and itchy today after my shower. I am trying to keep lotion on because im hoping it will help my skins elasticity as im losing. I also plan to start taking collagen. I am going to ask my surgeon at my post op apt on Monday. I had surgery done on the 19th. If you find something that works real well please let me know.

I had dry itchy skin during the first 3-4 weeks post op, my surgeon said it had to do with being lacking in some micronutrients that normally come from foods, once he started me on my Multivitamin it went away. Good Luck.

I have experienced this and I will tell you a little bit about my regimen. In the shower I start by using Oil of Olay moisturizing body wash and Nioxin scalp therapy #1 (my scalp was dry, flaky, and itchy as well). The Nioxin also helps with hair thinning/loss which you may experience later on and it feels FABULOUS on your scalp. Then after my shower I apply Aveeno non scented 24 hour moisture (brown and green bottle) all over my body. I also apply Tarte Maracuja Oil (can be expensive, so you can opt for a daily face moisturizer if you'd like) before my makeup. For a while my makeup looked awful cause my skin was so dry and using the Maracuja Oil really helped. Then before I go to bed I use a vanilla scented body butter (thicker than a normal lotion, almost like a cream) that I picked up at Walmart. If you can tolerate wearing socks to bed get a pair of thick fluffy socks to put on your feet after the body butter to help dry and cracked heels. I remove all my makeup and then apply Cetaphil facial moisturizer. This made a world of a difference. Now being 6 weeks out I still continue this because my skin feels and looks AMAZING!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
