A true testament to the sleeve.....

Recommended Posts

As I was neatening up around the kitchen and pantry today, I realized a couple of things.....

We bought 2 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies from a neighbor this year. Last year,we would have bought double the amount and they would have lasted maybe 48 hours in this house before being decimated. We've now had them for over 2 weeks and still have an entire box left. I truly forget they are there, and never care to have more than one cookie as a treat once a week or so.

Another - my husband's birthday was not too long ago and a friend baked an amazing homemade cake for him. Half of it went uneaten before it had to be thrown out today. Cake in the trash??!! That would have NEVER happened before my surgery.

This, my friends, is progress! :)

Can I get an AMEN! For the longest time I was astounded when my thin friend would throw away food. I knew that any leftover food I had would get eaten sooner or later.

But after the sleeve, I found myself throwing away a new pkg of Golden Oreos someone had given me. I had eaten 1 or 2 and knew I didn't want the rest. That was a really good feeling, tossing them in the trash after finding no one that would take them off my hands.

The bad part was later, one of my co-workers found them in the trash and couldn't believe some threw a whole pkg away and took them. Since they were a gift, I was afraid it would get back to the gifter that I had thrown them away. Luckily, I wasn't found out. B)

I totally agree, I'm a nurse and there are always goodies laying around the nurses' station. Yesterday there was two boxes of colossal donuts (they are these huge yummy donuts) and I could care less if I had one or not... Thanks goodness....

I too have found that I have no interest in the fatty things I used to eat at the nurses station.. I pass up everything now.. and take only Protein things.. I can take it or leave it.. at a meeting the other day.. the table I sat at was where they chose to set the doughnuts.. I just looked at them and went ... yuck.. now how great was that.. and I didnt even want one at all.. I find I like my currant diet.. the non fast food protein diet and my Atkins bars.. and my cheese.. so Im very happy..

Sounds like you may be the one in the house who was eating all of the treats/goodies. Might be a good time just to get them out of the house for good and not buy them. The rest of your family will benefit from this too.

Nah, I've never been a fan of deprivation. I have control now. I am better than the food, and I really appreciate living a normal life now. There will always been sweets and junk - at home, at work, at events, etc. The better I learn to control myself when I don't have to, the better I will be at controlling myself every other time. Not to mention, a life without the occasional treat sounds kind of depressing. Most fit/healthy people I know still indulge every now and then. Moderation is now my middle name, and it's no longer difficult to be that way.

Oh, and for what it's worth, my husband was the one to buy the Cookies - not me. And the cake was a gift for him, not a purchase. Which is kind of my point - there will always be external factors there to tempt me. Resisting a pantry full of Snacks every day has conditioned me to pass over the junk at work, parties, etc. As a result, it's also helped my snacking partner (my non-obese husband) eat less, too. Believe me - it wasn't all me eating that stuff. :)

Went through 2 weeks and cleaned out all of the crap from the pantry. Threw away all the sugar Cereal, all the junk foods and such. Our boys actually said they feel better eating the "diet" stuff, which really is only gluten free sugar free things, rice cereals and such. We're all going to enjoy our new life and make better decisions.

I was sleeved 12/10 and I believe I will hit 50lbs lost by my official weigh in on Monday. I now live a "normal" life when it comes to food, and I love every minute of it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
