How long was your surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery on Monday the 4th and I never asked my surgeon how long the surgery will take. How long was your surgery? How long did you spend in recovery. They told me I should be able to come home on Wednesday.

I went in on a Friday. Surgery was 50minutes long. Was in recovery for about 1 1/2 hours. Was sent to my room afterwards and left Sunday afternoon. No complications. My dr wants all his patients to be in for 2 nights.

Best of luck to you. :)

Usually about an hour for a straight sleeve. Not sure for band to sleeve revision. Recovery is standard at usually an hour or an hour and a half, unless there were complications.

Same here......45-60 min for the actual surgery, 1 1/2 hrs in the recovery room. And, my surgeon has his patients stay over for 2 nights in the hospital.

Mine was 5 hours! But I was a previous band patient with lots of scar tissue to be cleaned up and had a hernia to repair! Surgery at 730am. Out a little after noon. In recovery until about 5pm (don't remember exactly...). Home after 2 nights in hospital. Could have went home after 1 night but aside from being so far from the hospital (nearly 70 miles) I hadn't had a bowel movement....lol. Was thankful for the extra day of rest because that one extra night was a huge difference in a reduction in the amount of pain I had right after surgery.

I was in about 90 minutes with hernia repair. In recovery about 4 hours. Lived within 45 mins of center so I was allowed to go home.

I was in for about an hour, hernia repair as well, recovery after 1-1.5 hours, and discharged 24 hours later. No complications and feeling good.

50 minute surgery, 3 hour recovery because my blood pressure was 200/100 for the longest. After that I went to my room and was there overnight, then sent packing after my bp and heart rate were controlled via medication. Now that I'm home, stopped taking bp meds today and bp is 130/70 again like usual. No worries though, it'll seem like only a few seconds have gone by from the moment you pass out until you wake up.

My surgery was 35 minutes. Total time in OR was 50 minutes. I woke up in the OR and told them I was hurting. Went to recovery and was in there for about an hour and a half. I was coherent and talking with the nurses 75% of the time I was in there. Went to my room and had swallow test a few hours later. Was discharged 26 hours after checking in.

I went in on a Tuesday morning. Surgery was 45 minutes and I spent two hours in recovery. I really don't remember much from the rest of that day as I was coming off anesthesia. I got out of the hospital Friday afternoon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
