Everyone is different. I struggled with the "Tell/Don't Tell" issue too! In the end I just decided to spill the Beans ~I realized it was my decision and I had to do what was best for me. Found everyone to be very supportive because they knew my weight struggles were so difficult for me. I say do what is best for YOU! : )

I just told one of my best friends this morning I was waiting to tell her cause I didn't think she would be supportive. Boy was i wrong she was so happy and excited for me. She knows i my research and she knows the struggles i have.I was so happy she was that supportive.

This is something I've been contemplating for awhile now. There are some people that have known almost from the beginning of my journey. As I get closer to my surgery date, I've decided that I'm going to tell pretty much everyone. If I don't, I'm apt to forget who I told and who I didn't. And then I'll have to come up with stories about how I'm losing so much weight so quickly. It's too much stress to lie. I'll tell the rest of my family that don't know when we're all together for Passover at the end of the month. Then I'll let the rest of my friends know. If they truly love me and care about me, then they'll be supportive. If not, then I won't talk with them about it anymore. And if they're downright cruel, then they obviously were never my true friend to start with and I'll cut them out of my life.

I told my supervisor due to me needing time off and she told others in the office along with my coworker and to be honest I was going to lie to my supervisor cause I really didnt really want anyone to know

I choose to tell those people around me who are struggling with the same issues. I don't tell the others because its none of their business. Its hard though, I mean one month to the next your dropping weight like your refrigerator broke or something. At the end of the day, if people give you crap or you get a insensitive look from somebody, who the hell cares, they don't walk in your shoes.

I told people I got my gall bladder out. You have to change eating habits so the weight loss can be attributed to that :) simple!

I have very low-tolerance for putting up with people's snide comments and negativity toward something positive I'm doing for myself, so I'm not telling anyone. The only people who know are my husband, our son, my mom (who will be helping take care of my son after my surgery), my great-aunt & great-gram (who raised me), another great-aunt, my sister, and my niece. That's it. Just my family. No one in my husband's family knows. And no one needs to know.

If asked how I'm losing weight, I plan to say that I cut way back on carbs, fats, and sugars, and am eating lean Protein, drinking Protein shakes, drinking lots more Water, and eating clean, whole foods. I've lost roughly 42 lbs on my own prior to starting the WLS process and was asked how I'm losing weight by a couple of people in my husband's side of the family. I told them the same thing as I wrote above, because it is true. And, really, it won't change. I'll just have way less room for food and some fabulous restriction. :)

I'm only telling my wife lol and my parents! I feel you should tell who you want or not! Others will ask why I'm eating the way I am --in the beginning--I'm stating I am having gall bladder issues and having it taken out and that I'm on a strict diet.. That is if asked... If not I'm not offering up anything.... When weight starts noticeably fall off, just saying I have to completely change diet and exercising... Period.. Lost 100lbs 2 years ago and got accused and ridiculed by family members that I cheated on a fad diet or I had surgery... No credit for how I really did it on my own... So people believe what they want and need to get a life... Meanwhile ill be working it out with my sleeve and getting healthy for my life, because hey, any way or time you lose a ton if weight it is NOT easy! Not when you always have been the big girl!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
