Leshancocklie 2 Posted March 2, 2013 Ok, I am getting started on my 90 day that's required by BCBS FED as well as getting all my medical documents from past 3 years...BMI has been 35-40 and hypertension as a co-morb but im so nervous I'm going to get denied because in 2011 I went thru a divorce and got smaller than I'd been in my entire adult life and my BMI was 34.7.....2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013 it been over 35.... I'm also boarder line diabetic and going fir sleep test.... Anyone have any info or insight on this? Do I loose weight on the 90 or fail to get approved, anyone know if BCBS FED uses initial weight before 90days or after 90 days?
jamilaha 29 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi! I also have BCBS FED.... My last NUT appointment is in April. They best advice I could give is to read through your policy and call customer service if you have any questions. My BMI is 40 with no co morb. BCBS doesnt make you lose weight but your surgeon may have you lose some. I had to lose 10% of my excess body weight and that was 8 pounds. It is my understanding that BCBS uses your start weight. Leshancocklie 2 Posted March 15, 2013 Thankyou..... Keep me updated on how long it take to get your approval after you submit.... I'm trying to get an idea of when due to a family vacation being already scheduled.
missmeow 156 Posted March 15, 2013 I have standard and was told its one of the easiest to get approval for. Mine took a couple days. The office I go to does a good job of ensuring that they get approval, so talk with the insurance team at your office. You may need to just send in 3 years instead of 2 showing your typical weight. mswanda9577 44 Posted March 15, 2013 I have BCBS Fed basic. They submitted mine last week I think on friday of last week. They uploaded packet 3/11/13. I was told by insurance that it could take 30-60 days. It made me sad but Dr. told me it never takes that long. We will see!!
mswanda9577 44 Posted March 15, 2013 Oh and they count the weight that you were during your initial visit. I had the same issue. My BMI was below forty for the two years prior. and then reached forty and was exactly forty. I dont know if it is different because I have two co-morbitites so my BMI can go down to 35 and it will not effect my surgery . I was not diagnosed with the comobitities until after I had started the process. The doctor told me not to worry though I should be fine.
