The surgeon sent a packet, forms to mail back to them and 2 evaluations before 1st visit, Nutritionists and psychiatrist, depending how fast the apointments are made for and when the surgeon gets aprovals through the evaluations, after that it was a breeze, they had me come to office and aproved the surgery 1st visitation although I needed wait next for insurance aproval many people were able to get a surgery date set that day as we were there as a group.

After given a date and aproval at surgeons, ask very specificaly what needs for Vitamins and foods post operation you'll need, I suggest that you get enough for weeks after surgery so you needn't bother to have to get anything and the diet then should allow you to easily stock all you'll need for a month at least to start. Don't just take all suggestions unless the surgeon you will use also uses these items first months post operation.

Yes, it's a good idea to quit pre op, try at least 6 weeks ahead I think, any way that was a suggestion from a practitioner for me, also though, you can smoke post op after a while, there is how ever first the surgery anestisia to worry about and then after an infection, many people think to quit for good if they start yet it is awefuly hard to do considering I have quit many times before and have a multi range of results from a couple weeks to over 2 years, people are told not to use cafeine also, so be aware of that too, ask your surgeons people for there thoughts. I quit for a month pre op and still do not smoke since December when I had surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
