Did anyone get an IV infection days later? I was sleeved 2/20 and last night my arm, near where my IV was, started to hurt and was bruising. I called the dr today and he told me to put a warm washcloth on it and prescribed me antibiotics. He said it'll be fine but I'm kind of worried. Any similar experiences?

Not during my sleeve surgery but yes, I got one once when I was put on an IV for severe dehydration due to a stomach virus.

It was incredibly painful and the infection spread down the vein all the way to my hands and even moving my fingers was painful.

Once I was on antibiotics I felt relief within a few days, though that bruised feeling remained for a while and it took a while for the actual bruises to heal, too.

I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope you heal swiftly!

Is the pain from the bruise? If so it could be normal pain from having an iv inserted. If the site is red or you have red streaks going from your iv site down or up your arm that can be phlebitis. It's good he gave you an antibiotic if it is red. Also elevation helps phlebitis... Prop your arm up on a pillow if you can when sleeping or sitting on a couch/chair. If the area becomes red, extremely painful, and swollen call your doctor back, it could be a dvt (blood clot).

It's called phlebitis....I've had it before. It's a quick treatment and hot compresses are wonderful!

Ok, thank you. It's reassuring to hear from someone else who had it and all was fine.

Yep.. I did and it went all the way to my elbow. Once I was on antibiotic and anti inflammatory cream it felt better, but still took over a month to calm down completely

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
