When to start counting a loss

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 26th, and everything is going absolutely awesome right now. Was just curious when you all started counting your loss? Pre op weight was 342, and post op 3 days later I'm 334.

I am presleeve and have lost over 60 pounds already from my highest weight... 35 of those pounds have been during the past few months during a very strict presurgery diet. (Not as much as YOU though.. AWESOME losses pre-surgery by the way!) I don't really see any difference in "counting" weight loss pre and post surgery.

Count them all!!!!!

What she said! If the weight doesn't return in 2 days, I count it. A loss is a loss.

I count my pre- and post- op loss. I lost 7 lbs before my 1st appointment, then 23 lbs between that and my surgery. My post op loss has been 45 lbs in a little less than 2.5 months, for a total of 75 lbs over a year. You bet I count it all! LOL

Be sure to do measurements. One of the things I regret not doing.

Don't weigh yourself everyday, either. scales measure weight, not fat.

Thanks everyone, and I do plan on doing measurements each week. My pre op weight was from 2007, so it's been up and down, etc. I just chose to use 464 because it's where I started from, a long long time ago.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
