Yesterday marked 3 weeks post op for me. Day of surgery I weighed 225, and after losing then gaining then losing again, I am now down to 209! So close to 1derland that I can finally get excited. My issue is that people are starting to notice my rapid weight loss and asking me what I'm doing. I have been called "skinny" so many times this week, all I can do is laugh (cause I'm still far from skinny). I don't feel it's anybody's business but those who I've already shared with about my surgery. For those who chose to go this route and keep it your business, what did you tell me when they asked about your weight loss? Or your new eating habits? Just curious cause I wanna say none of your business, but I don't want to be rude! Lol

I think we need to be careful that we aren't so secretive about the surgery, had a friend of mine not been open to me about it, I would not have known about it vsg. I am a band to sleeve revision so I'm not announcing to the world look what I did BUT if someone genuinely asks me and I think this is something that would help them I will share.

I do understand the judgment of others, I have a brother that was so impressed with my 80lb weight loss with my band ( he didn't know I had lap band) as I'm getting ready to tell him he says " see, hard work gets you there, you don't need any weight loss surgery" I decided he didn't need to know. He's never had a weight problem so he has no clue.

Being selective is good but being somewhat open is also good :)

Janarae, I have no problem sharing with those who are genuine but these are nosey folks at work who don't need to lose one single pound. It's almost to a level of intrusiveness so that's why I asked.

Very well said butterfly. I didn't tell anyone at work precisely due to that reason, I feel it's something really personal. But I have been trying to work hard at losing weight even before surgery, so I say the real things that I do now anyway, like, eating healthier, low carb/ high Protein, calorie counting and exercise. It's no secret to many that I have tried all diet known, so I'm keeping my answer short and simple.

There are plenty of the nosy busybody types out there, no doubt, but please don't immediately assume that just because they themselves are a healthy weight that they aren't interested for valid reasons. They may, after all, have friends or family members who are looking for a solution to their weight and health issues, and they are trying to help by getting info about how from someone who is apparently successfully losing weight.

I'm not saying you shouldn't maintain whatever level of privacy you wish for your own comfort and situation, or that the OP doesn't have valid reasons for believing that these particular coworkers are truly just nosy. I'm just reminding all of us (including myself!) to be careful about assuming a thin person is just being nosy because they're too thin to need the surgery themselves.

Ive had lots of comments lately and normally I just say 'thank you' and move on but when I do get asked what Ive been doing to lose weight I usually say that I eat several tiny meals a day, mostly Protein and drink lots of green tea and work out. But there is one super busy body at work that just wants to know so she can gossip about it and I told her that Ive just been having an incredible amount of sex lately :) That shut her up, bitter ole biddy.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
