RAAinNH 113 Posted March 1, 2013 I'm going to Dartmouth Medical Center this afternoon to enroll in their Bariatric Program. I currently have a lap band and I'm planning on having revision surgery to the gastric sleeve. Initially, I was so embarrassed by my lack of weight loss with the band. I finally got enough courage to see another surgeon who suggested revision surgery. I have read a few informative gastric sleeve books and the posts on this site are so helpful. I am encouraged that the sleeve will be an excellent tool that will help me lose and keep off my excess pounds. One of my biggest problems is that I am hungry all of the time. What I've learned is that it's really reflux that is making me think I'm hungry. I have stopped drinking regular coffee and and switched to Decaf which is helping a lot with my reflux issues. I am fortunate to have good health insurance. They will approve the revision surgery once I complete the Bariatric Program. Although I have been through this program once before at a different center, I am looking forward to the process. This time I am planning and preparing for success. I'm 56 years old and I expect to lose the weight slower than younger Sleevers. That's OK.... slow & steady will get me there. I am looking forward to stopping high blood pressure & cholesterol meds. I am also pre-diabetic and have sleep apnea. It will be wonderful to sleep with out my CPAP machine! My health is the main reason I need to lose weight... the side effect will be that I will look & feel so much better!
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted March 1, 2013 Congrats! I was 55 when I got sleeved and I wasn't any slower than any one else here. So you most likely have a big surprise coming your way once being sleeve, besides, I don't believe anyone is a slow loser, we just lose at our own pace..... Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted March 1, 2013 I agree that age doesn't play a factor in it other than maybe some "elders" are less active? I'm 55, slow loser, but there are a huge amount slow losers of all ages and fast loser of the same? Good luck!

ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted March 1, 2013 revision surgery to the gastric sleeve. . lose weight slower than younger Sleevers??.. RAAinNH I've always "admired" the people on the board that went from a failed lapband situation (erosion, slippage, not loosing weight) going forward and having another surgery - kudos to you all having surgery once can be hard enough - going through it twice IMO shows how serious you are regarding successful weight loss congrats/kudos to all you "2nd timers"!! I agree with the other "old farts" (i was sleeved at 57) that age shouldn't/doesn't have anything to do with weight loss so you can "eat" those words you might loose weight slower than that "youngun", or the same as - or beat her!!! but as you know - we are NOT involved in a race - we're taking one day at a time for the rest of our healthier, happier, longer life You are right, "slow and steady will get me there!!!" this is no race - as long as we get to that "finish line" we're doing great!!!!! "we" always say "never, ever" compare yourself to any other sleever (time period to lose X amount i.e.) the only thing we have in common, is that we're all different you will be so happy when your health problems improve, or are gone forever I know you will do great post surgery hope you get scheduled for WLS ASAP Just cleaned off a spot on the "losers' bench" for you to sit on - next to me of course good luck bud see you in the neighborhood
