My First Fill

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone - my name is Avery and today is my first fill. I am sort of scared and nervous, but at the same time ready. Everyone is thinking I am a moron for going to get my first fill on the week of Thanksgiving, but I know my willpower is not the best yet, so I would prefer to actually have the band tightened this week rather than gorging on stuffing and pumpkin pie. I have been banded for over 5 weeks now, and it is time. I have only lost 26 pounds. Is this good??

At first, on my liquid diet, I was so strict, but then I practically skipped over mushies and went onto solids. My swelling went down very quickly, so I could eat almost anything but bread, some pastas, and lunchmeat. Is this normal?

Oh by the way..........NO ONE EVER TOLD ME NOT TO DRINK liquids DURING, 30 MIN BEFORE, and 30 MIN AFTER MEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The expected is 1-2 # per week you've lost 26# in 5weeks- get ready for it to slow down. It will at some point.

The first fill is exciting!! MIne was last week. The foods you can and cant eat will vary, you have thus far experienced the "normal".

Good Luck!!

Avery,

You are doing great!!! 26 pounds is good. My doc told me to wait 1.5 to 2 hours after a meal to start drinking again. I drink all the time. Literally, ALL the time. This is going to be really difficult for me. Anyway....... you are doing great. Hang in there!!

Thank yall so much for being so kind to me and the kind words!

What can I expect today as I go to get my fill? I am so nervous! EVEN MORE NERVOUS THAN THE ACTUAL SURGERY, because he didn't fill my band on the initial surgery.

:)

You should be on liquids the day of your fill. Most doctors want you to stay on liquids and/or mushies for a few days after. Mine wants us on liquids for 3 days and mushies for 3 days after a fill. He is a little stricter than some.

The actual fill should be a non event. Its no big deal. Fills can kick in at any time so be prepared for the unexpected. Foods that you could eat before a fill you may not be able to eat. You can eat one day and not the next. Everyone is different so finding what works and doesn't work for you will be the trick.

Good luck and go easy on Thursday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
